Bar 'n' Grill - Part II

I tried watching Farscape when it came out but the Muppet-Aliens  really annoyed me so I stopped after three episodes.
I might give it another try though, since everyone seems to love it so much.
I'm also just starting to watch BSG and I must say I really like it so far. Especially the FX look quite amazing (though not as good as ENT).
Still, nothin beats DS9!

peace

You shouldn't have stopped. Yeah it does get slow, but half way through season 1 it picks up and never looks back. Give it another try. You might even come to enjoy those "muppet Aliens", especially Pilot.

Alright, I'll give it another try just as soon as I'm through with BSG. Thanx for the info tomalak.

peace

Farscape was all right. It got better in the second and especially third seasons. Then it just went flat. I didn't give two craps about the fourth season.

Battlestar Galactica kicks ass. It displaced the original Star Trek as my favorite science fiction series. Very quickly.

Loved Farscape. The "muppets" turn out to be very interesting characters. Then again, the show contains some of the best characters I've seen in any series - genre or otherwise. I realise it's not for everyone, but it's definitely worth another go.

BSG... I can't get into it. I'm definitely going to give it another go, but IMHO it didn't live up to the hype at all. I watched the mini and enjoyed it, various friends gushed about it, so I fully expected to like it...and I didn't. It's on a rather lengthy list of things I plan to rewatch, though, so maybe I'll get what the fuss is about next time around. ;)

The local UPN affiliate here in CA, 13, is showing Farscape on Sundays at 2:00 pm. I watched it since so many people here talk good things about it, and instantly fell in love with it. If it wasn't for football, i would never miss it. And i love the "muppet aliens."

I watched the Firefly pilot for the first time last night.

I have to admit that before watching it, I hadn't done much research into the series. I'm a very "anti-spoiler" type of person, so I didn't want to take the risk of trying to figure out more about the show at the expense of discovering spoilers. So what I knew going in was very basic: general comments that it's a great show and different than standard scifi, a few of the names of main characters, the ship's name is Serenity and it's Firefly class, and that it portrays perhaps a more realistic, less optimistic view of the future. Other than that, I knew nothing going in.

It was at first different than my expectations. I expected to see many odd-looking aliens and a ship with a larger crew and more formal command structure. Obviously it was different than I expected, but not in a bad way. It's refreshing to see something different.

I was disappointed by the opening sequence. I'm not a huge fan of battle scenes to begin with, and particularly not when I don't know any of the characters involved and have no idea why they're fighting.

However, after the opening sequence, it was all good. I was really impressed. It was fast-paced and definitely had a few surprises. Looking back at it, I'm amazed at how much plot they were able to fit in without it seeming overwhelming at the time.

I also really like the variety of characters. The contrast between pairs such as Kaylee and Jayne or Shephard Book and Inara provides some great dynamics to play around with.

I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the series!

Well, it's been one of those days, so i'll just help myself to some blood wine. *inspects bottle* 2309? How did you manage to get this?

I like Farscape alot...but you have to allow that show a bit of slack, IMO, in order to really appreciate it.

Farscape was a show that tested the boundries. The writers were not afraid to step out on a limb and try new things. And that was overall, a good thing, I think, because it certainly made the show different from anything else out there - other scifi shows out at the time that were more similar to each other than different.

But Farscape's strength is also it's weakness. As a result, there are some episodes of Farscape that I consider to be among the best scifi episodes of any show ever written (Into the Lion's Den I & II is FANTASTIC)...but there are some well and true 'dog' episodes as well.

If you appreciate what sort of chances the writers were taking at the time, and be more accepting of the 'dog' episodes, you won't be disappointed. Because when Farscape was good, it was VERY good.

I'm continuing my way through DS9 for the second time. I watched In the Hands of the Prophets and Homecoming last night. I'm enjoying all the political and religious Bajoran plots so much more the second time around. I also forgot what a b**** Kai Winn was. I'd completely forgotten Spoiler:
she had tried to have Bareil murdered.

Hopefully I'll be watching the concluding parts of the arc, The Cirle and The Siege tonight.

Woohoo, I finally made Commander. All drinks are on me!
Pass me the Sandpeas and Yamak sauce please.

I'll be going back to my quarters now, where I'll pop in my ancient DVDs of Dawson's Creek and celebrate with some sweet teen drama.

Congrats DsZ. I just made Fleet Captain a couple of days ago. So, does that make me your superior officer? :p

;)

Oh, and I'll have a Sumerion Sunset. :D

Congrats on your promotion as well. Can I ask, how the hell did you get 1000 posts in 3 months? That must be some kinda record.

So, I guess you are my superior officer. I gotta warn you though, I'm rather insubordinate at times. :)

Agreed mostly. I think what I loved about Farscape was the characters and the kind of family they built on Moya. The episode I last saw was a great example of that. Yeah, so Ayren killed the first pilot, but she was still kind of given support after all the anger died down. I loved that final scene when they were hooking Pilot back up to Moya. The closeness everyone felt was great.

Farscape was a show that wasn't afraid to not take itself seriously. There would be so many serious episodes, but there were so many comedy episodes like both the Animated one and the late season 4 episode where Zahn appeared for a short scene.

Vash, I too liked Into the Lions Den. If you want to see how honorable deaths go, look no further than Crais and Talyn and "Talyn, Starburst." It was tragic, but it was a cool FX shot.
