The only show I'm really regularly watching this season is REBA on the WB.

I also catch whatever happens to be on when I have a minute, and I watch a lot of DVDs - both Trek and movies.

Speaking of DVDs, does anyone have any suggestions of a good sci-fi series I could start watching on DVD (I rent through netflix)? Several years ago, I sporadically caught a few eps each of Sliders, B5, X-Files, and Stargate. I'm open to trying any of these or others on DVD. What's a good one to start with for a DS9 fan?

Ooooooh......

You've not seen all of B5 yet????

How much have you seen?

B5 is pretty doggone popular in this thread - all of us love that show!

So if you've only seen a few episodes of this, that would be my recommendation. You'll get lots of responses with any posts you make about B5. ;)

But The X-Files and Stargate SG-1 are also popular in these parts, as are Stargate Atlantis, Battlestar Galactica, Firefly, Farscape, Buffy and Angel. :)

BigFoot, I agree about Buffy.

I know that S3 is supposedly 'better'...and it *was* very good, no doubt! However, I still like S2 better. I love Surprise/Innocence, Passion, I Only Have Eyes for You, and Becoming I & II the best. All the real Buffy/Angel angst eps.

I only caught a few eps, several years ago. I don't even remember what happened in them. I've heard lots of good stuff about the series but just never sat down to watch too much. I'll definitely take up the recommendation and get some B5! I assume it's best to start at the beginning and watch in order?

^ Yeah, go with B5.

Definately start at the beginning. The Gathering is the two hour pilot episode and is available only as a separate DVD.

Shows that I love:

X Files
B5
Firefly
All Trek series
Red Dwarf
Doctor Who
Buffy
Angel
SG-1
Atlantis
Lost
Millennium
Lone Gunmen
Farscape
Alias
The Outer Limits
C.S.I
Futurama
Quantum Leap
Battlestar Galactica (new)
House M.D.

That should do for now...

;)

Hi! The only show that I must watch every week is Lost. Other than that it just depends on what is on TV when I am home to watch it.

Yeah - absolutely. B5 is even *more* serailzed than DS9 is, so watching in order is really important.

One thing though - season 1 of B5 is by far the 'worst' season of the show, when you watch it for the first time. It actually becomes alot better once you have seen the whole show, because you go back to season 1 and see alot of foreshadowing and hints of things to come.

But on first viewing, it can sometimes seem not-so-good.

Do not be deceived by this.

Season 2 is much better, and season 3 might very well be the best single season of any scifi show out there. DS9 is my favorite TV show ever, but if I had to pick a single season of a single show to take to a desert island with me, season 3 of B5 would be it. Season 3 totally rocks. Additionally, my favorite episode of any scifi show is in this season as well. B5 overall is my second favorite TV show of all time after DS9....but it is *really* close. And personally, I think most Niners would like B5 if they watched it in order and gave it a real chance.

But don't cheat and skip ahead to get past season 1. Part of the beauty of B5 is how it builds the story.

Just be patient and get thru season 1...and know from there it gets alot better.

^ I totally agree with what Vash said. B5 is a wonderful show, and while I like a few shows more (DS9, Farscape, Buffy, Angel) it's definately one of the best sci-fi shows ever. And yeah, S1 isn't that great, but it's still decent and had a few very good eps. :)

Oh yeah, here's the new shows I'm currently watching (in no perticular order):
- House M.D. (my fav show right now)
- Boston Legal (2nd fav show)
- Lost
- Alias
- Grey's Anatomy
- The O.C.
- CSI
- CSI Miami
- Veronica Mars
- Prison Break
- Bones
- Nip/Tuck
- The West Wing
- Smallville
- Desperate Housewives

New person to the DS9 thread here! Hi!

DS9 has always been my favourite Trek series, I loved it right from the start. I just fell in love with the way it was so different from TNG and the squeaky clean Enterprise. I think the point when I realised that we really weren't in Kansas any more was in the first season episode where Q turns up. And O'Brien's response when he sees him is "Bloody hell!" - You'd never get that on the Enterprise

What was that, "Only the size of my head." But that was in the 23rd Century, wasn't it?

Well, if there are no headaches, i'll just get me some Hot fish juice, as a toast to BlackDog, since she's about to join the AL.

To be honest, I don't believe they don't ever get headaches, rather they can treat them very quickly and easily.

Well, time to start slingin gagh again :D :D :D

WOW!!! Look at how many posts this thing's gotten in only 2 days! Is this like the resurrection of DS9 lounge or what?? We may not have to wait another 1+ years for the next installment!

A BIG NINER WELCOME to all the newbies here. Disregard the scowl on my face and the bat'leth strapped to my back; I'm glad you're here

So after the DVD release was completed, I at first left the season 7 thread open until it reached 1,000 posts (AdmiralElectron was the threadstarter of this thread) and after that, kevsthaman and the Klingon Chef picked it up and ran the next thread to 1,000 (kev - you ran one thread to 1,000 or two? I can't remember!). After that, SB picked up the challenge and that thread ran to 1,000.
Vash, oh renoun Mod and sister from another mother (and father and cultural background, but anyway :D) you're right, this is the history of the DS9 "lounge" threads so far. I only did one, the first after the S7 countdown reached 1,000; but I was ready to start the next one if noone else stepped up. Thankfully, SB took the challenge (whew, less bar work for me :D). And it was also SB who had the inspired idea of the self-service bar (why didn't I think of that! [River]Too... much... slinging!!![/River])

BigFoot, I think Steven has done the closers on our lounge threads, but he hasn't started any. Uh oh, one of you oughta be up next!

I see the traditions have resumed - talk about life, the universe & everything... or talk about tv/movies/dvds... or talk about nothing  It's all good here.

Scuse me for breaking in the conversation. Carry on!

I haven't been around the DS9 board much lately. Matter of fact haven't been around much of them. These places are just so lively you miss a day or two and you get so far behind. I ended up missing almost two weeks. My motherbroad got fried and I had no PC. It was like my best friend had died.

I've been watching my season 4 and 5 DS9 DVD's a lot lately. I would love to get the other seasons. Maybe one day they'll be priced to sell. LOL

I love Lost and miss Futurama (another set of DVD's I sooo want to purchase).

My favorite shows at the moment.

nBSG (in part due to the old bar and grill post, everyone kept talking about it and it just sounded good)
Arrested Development
Scrubs
L&O
My Family

But my absolute favorite show at the moment is Foyle's War. I just discovered it and I can't get enough of it. Michael Kitchen is just so brilliant in it.

Indeed I have not. We had the countdown thread that lasted for about 4 months after season 7 was released ( ), then your thread, then SB's bar.

Back on topic, my current must see TV:
-Prison Break
-Amazing Race: Family
-House
-ReGenesis (kinda annoyed here, I missed an ep because they moved it from Monday to Wednesday without warning)
-CBC comedy (Red Green, Air Farce, 22 Minutes)
-Fox comedy (Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad)
-Lost
-Alias (though I often forget about it)

All decent shows at the very least. Although Air Farce and 22 Minutes have been going downhill for a couple years now.

You guys got toothgrub-juice? No? Oh well, I'll just take a rootbeer then.

CrazyMaryT go ahead and buy the Futurama DVDs. The audio commentaries are even funnier than the show itself. Trust me, I've listened to them five times already (at least).

peace

I'll have a prune juice. A drink for warriors. :D

I watched The Storyteller and Progress last night. It was nice to see the start of the O'Brien/Bashir friendship. I love those two together.

Hey guys,

Kevs,

You are right about the rebirth of this thread. It's great to see so many new people around here and I hope you guys stay around. This almost feels like 2003 all over again, which was when the DVDs came out. I can't believe it has been almost two years of pure DS9 glory. I remember when it was never on.

Anyway, I know we are talking about TV shows, but today I went to go see a movie, and it was one I was surprised was still playing. I went to go see Tim Burton's Corpse Bride today with a friend. I have to say I enjoyed it, even though it was pretty predictable. Spoiler:
I knew that that Lord Bakins, or whatever his name was was the husband of Emily like half way through. Also, speaking of which, if I were in that position, I would have married the dead girl. She was hot
:p . Anyway, I did like the music, and Burton does have a vivid imagination. I wouldn't buy it or anything but as something to do on a quiet monday with a friend it was worth it.

^ I keep meaning to go see this. I enjoyed Nightmare Before Christmas and this looks to have a similar feel to it.

It does, but I think Nightmare Before Christmas has more of a charm and better writing.
