Bar and Grill 4: The Conversation Pit

You started watching Trek with "A Time to Stand"? It's a great episode and all, but I can't imagine it being easy to get into it with an arc episode in the sixth season of a show.

Well, you obviously chose to stick around and watch the rest of the show, which shows you have good taste.

Indeed. I'm a Niner. :D Seriously though, that first ep. hooked me. I may not have known what was going on, but hey, that's what this place is for, huh?

Why nobody wants to check out my band? Over the years I've been posting on this board, every once in awhile, I'll make a post about it. I mean, I've never wanted to come off all spammy, so It's been done very sparingly. But, there is a link in my friggin' sig for Kahless's sake!

No one wants to hear a fellow niner's trek inspired tunes?

I mean, we have a song about Morn!! I know there're some fellow Morn fans out there! And a song about Tosk. And a song inspired by my experiences on these VERY message boards, called "The Insolent Fan Boy"!

It would be nice to get some feedback, even if it is negative (especially if it is hilariously negative!).

But, anyone care to elaborate on any theories as to why people on these boards seem to be so dis-interested in humorful trek art in music form? I mean, people post there lame-ass alternate universe 22nd century dress uniform ideas and get plenty o' feedback. What IS the deal? I mean, come on! (sorry, morphed into a Seinfield-esque stand up comedian there for a sec...)

Well we watched "Take me out to the Holosuite". My life doesn't feel any different for watching it other than the fact I can now say without qualification that I have watched every single DS9 episode now. To be honest I'd be generous if I gave it a 2.5 out of 5.

As for the music Mike I will give it a listen, though I've never been much for lyrical music based on shows/movies. I've always been more of a orchestral soundtrack kind of person or to have the pure fluff song. That being said I haven't sampled a lot of music like you're describing which is why I'll consider giving it a go.

You know...I would just like to say that I am really annoyed and disappointed that people spammed up the forum yesterday, for no good reason.

It's gotten out of hand when people take an ADVERT thread and spam it up, simply to up their post counts.

I'm glad Bonz docked 'em posts - because the spamming around here has gotten WAY out of control.

And to anyone who wants to spam: GO DO IT IN THE LOUNGE.

Good grief, people.... Do I have to be here every FRIGGIN' second????

Is there a reason why Jammer is still a Mod? I ask because he's never here and not that it's a bad thing, but isn't the definition of a mod someone who is here when the other mod maybe can't be?

Sentimentality wise, season 6 will always be my favorite. I mean, the season 6 opener is the first ep. of Trek i ever saw.

Interesting. I must admit, when you first episode you ever watch is a really good one, you do get hooked, but it can also be a let down (if you expect too much).

It has been an interesting few days around the board. Over the past 24 hours I've watched 7 or 8 DS9 episodes, and watched the final three episodes after lunch.

I don't feel like creating a self-important thread in the Voyager forum as it's not strong enough to sustain its own topic.

I've been catching VOY's seventh season over the past few weeks, most of which I missed in 2000-2001, and I've decide that, overall, I like Voyager afterall.

When push comes to shove, there are only really two seasons I don't like, the fifth and sixth. It's too bad Ken Biller couldn't have become showrunner sooner.

^ I like VOY...but I think the sixth season is the worst...followed VERY closely by season 7. There are alot of decent episodes in season 7...but there are also several episodes that REALLY piss me off. And they are so glaring in the WAY they piss me off that whenever I think of that season, I get angry. Still.

Flesh & Blood, Author, Author and Endgame all contain plot points that piss me off in such a HUGE way that I can't seem to get past them.

The only other episode of ANY other Trek show that generates this much anger in me is the ENT finale.

Plus, season 7 of VOY really dealt the death knell to the character of Chakotay...and continued the policy of non-development of the Tuvok character, who I happened to really love as well.

And don't even get me started on how Endgame ruined Janeway. We could be here all night!

I really love the first 4 seasons of that show...and I find season 5 to be tolerable...although it starts to go downhill as you go along.

Season 6 was the EMH/Seven of Nine show...but it had some gems in there as well that made it worthwhile to keep watching.

For me, season 7 has pretty much no spectacular episodes - several okay ones, but nothing with any WOW! factor. And that, combined with the episodes I mentioned above (two of which are two-parters!) made that season almost tied with season 6 in terms of dislike-bordering-on-hatred.

Voyager to me had a lot of potential that was just never fully realized. I don't think they exactly knew what they wanted to do with the show and that lack of defining purpose (other than getting home) hurt it for me. It's Trek, they were going to get home. There was no real suspense for me. And my pet bugbear (named Dennis :)) was when they found Amelia Earheart...I almost chucked the series at that point.

I barely watched the sixth season. After Ron Moore bailed, so did I, for the most part. I really didn't enjoy the fifth season at all. The seventh season, I've seen less than half of, but nothing's jumped out as terrible... except the Doctor cooperating with some rotund aliens just to make sure Janeway isn't hurt.

Endgame all contain plot points that piss me off in such a HUGE way that I can't seem to get past them.

By the seventh season, I'd stopped really caring about VOY, so Endgame didn't bother me. Granted, I wasn't too crazy about Chakotay and Seven, but I figure the relationship didn't last anyway.

Plus, season 7 of VOY really dealt the death knell to the character of Chakotay.

For me, that would be the fifth season episode where he's boxing. I thought Chakotay was a pacifist.

And I thought Boothby was a gardener, not a Mic-wanna. ;)

"Uh, yo, maybe I'll fight the Cardies and maybe I won't, ya know." "You're a bum, Chuckles! You won't last three torpedo hits!"

Season 6 was the EMH/Seven of Nine show...but it had some gems in there as well that made it worthwhile to keep watching.

From what I've seen of S7, what I like is that they're less of a focus, at least Seven anyway. It seems to me the seventh season is the most about the Doctor and Paris/Torres. For some reason, I think Paris/Torres works and I'm glad they actually spent more time with it.

For me, season 7 has pretty much no spectacular episodes - several okay ones, but nothing with any WOW! factor.

That's exactly what makes me glad I'd stopped watching at the time. Coming off of the end of DS9, this wasn't what I was looking for at all. Making it all the more frustrating was that VOY was now the latest face of Star Trek.

In 2007, OTOH, it's not the latest face of Star Trek, and if it was a slow day I'd figure "why not put it on?" and then, afterwards I'd think "that killed some time, not bad" and that's all I'd be looking to do.

There were a lot of great things about Voyager. I have even been looking forward to seeing Seasons 5-7 again even though I missed this go round on spike. Probably get it later in the summer. It's not my favorite series, but I don't absolutely positively hate it like some do.

You know, so long as we are talking about VOY, my friend and i tried watching Caretaker when it was on Spike the other day, and we both jsut said, "My god, this is a boring pilot. What else is on?"

Well, this is a good point.

When you are comparing it to the Dominion War, it tends to come up a bit....erm.....'slow'.

But when you are comparing it to sitting in your living room staring at the walls...well, I guess it looks alot better.

Kinda like the way having a root canal makes you forget about that splitting headache. :guffaw:

What killed me about Season 6 and 7, among other things, was that it was way, way overplayed on syndication. I got very tired of watching the same episodes over and over. And I wanted to chuck the Doctor out the airlock most of Season 7. :scream:

Being home and jobless has left me lots of time to read and I've reread almost all of the DS9:Relaunch. Makes me want to watch DS9, but the whole being jobless aspect prevents me from buying any more seasons
