Bar and Grill 4: The Conversation Pit

Well, my wife is finally getting to season 7 DS9. She was starting from the beginning which we did back in 2005. We've finally made it into the homestretch...though as much as I love the show I am nervous because we are approaching the one episode I have never watched..."Take me out to the Holosuite".

This has been my secret Niner shame for years. The thing is...I think baseball is the most ass-numbing sport on the face of the planet. Add to that trying to turn it into a kind of comedy episode with Vulcans....and...and...I..*sob* couldn't bring myself to inflict that on myself. Now I may have to because she wants to see every episode....

I don't know what to do...

I don't give a crap about baseball, but I still watched and enjoyed the episode. You're worried over nothing.

Just be a man, suck it up, and watch the episode with her. ;)

Take Me Out To The Holosuite is actually quite a fun episode, and I'm not a fan of baseball either.

Good evening all,

It's been a while since I've posted in this thread, or even in this forum, but it's good to see the Bar and Grill still alive and barely kicking. I've been busy with school, midterms, and just life in general.

I've not seen an episode of DS9 in such a long time, and it may not be this year since I need to get going on my personal reviewing of TNG to celebrate the 20th anniversary (I'm on The Big Goodbye right now) and it's almost May and I do need to see the end of the series by the end of the year).

Glad to see you guys still posting in here.

I actually watched DS9 for the first time in about 8 months or so the other night. I got in the mood, so I took down Favor the Bold/Sacrifice of Angels and watched 90 minutes of DS9. It was great! Made we want to watch more! Maybe try an episode I've not seen since the DVDs came out or something like that.

I know that once we were done season 6 I was a bit sad knowing a lot of the truly great episodes were already behind us. On the other hand the fact that my wife was tearing up during "The Visitor" and "Time's Orphan" (it was the ending with future Molly sending herself back that got her) were good things.

Only 24 left for us and then she'll have seen everything from the beginning..

^ I think it's great that you are watching from the beginning. I've not done that since the DVDs came out in 2003. I really don't have time these days.

But it is nice to see a couple of episodes now and then. I should really do it more.

My wife had only ever seen TOS and VOY (she got bored of TNG after 2 seasons) so DS9 was totally new for her and it has supplanted TOS as her favourite of the series now. I think we've been going through episodes for 2.5 years now...

There's still some high quality in Season 7 (Even though it's an overrated season) like Inter Arma Enim Silit Leges and some episodes in the first arc like When it Rains and Tacking the Wind. Enjoy the final season.

I just bought DS9 Season 7 and have caught some that I missed since it originally aired, including "Covenant" and "The Emperor's New Cloak". I enjoyed Covenant, Dukat stories are always interesting to me. Cloak was pretty one dimensional, I had hoped it would have been like other mirror episodes.

^ I like the final season. It's my favorite season after season 6. :p

I've seen it all, but I haven't rewatched season 7 since it originally aired. My favourite seasons are 5 & 6. In second place are 4 & 7.

Seasons 6 and 7 are a set. The only problem I have is some poor writing in the last one of s.6 and that one where Jake and Kira become Wraith and Prophet. I'd noticed a tendency of ST to resolve problems via one beam of colored light after another. Also... the Bajor wing of the closing storyline edges toward magic.

It's sad when a program stops getting better, but DS9 held at a very high level. One reason s.5 may have seemed better than 7 to some is that it was exciting seeing it get better. We'd come to expect it to keep doing so. Season 7 is amazing. It was developed DS9 with all the things we'd been promised. It shouldn't have to be better than s.6 to be appreciated.

A lot of the dissatisfaction is connected to the Dukat-became-a-ranting-cliche-villain theory. No, his true nature came out, that was lurking all along, which has real equivalents all over our real world. There were a few bad lines, not many. Overall, he became more 3-dimensional.

You know...I would just like to say that I am really annoyed and disappointed that people spammed up the forum yesterday, for no good reason.

It's gotten out of hand when people take an ADVERT thread and spam it up, simply to up their post counts.

I'm glad Bonz docked 'em posts - because the spamming around here has gotten WAY out of control.

And to anyone who wants to spam: GO DO IT IN THE LOUNGE.

Good grief, people.... Do I have to be here every FRIGGIN' second????

^ I said this in the AL already, but anyway..

Sorry about that. I didn't think anyone would mind, since the threads were obviously going to get closed anyway... not that that's an excuse.

Seriously, if I had known that it would be such a big deal I wouldn't have done it. I'm also sorry I kinda encouraged other people to follow my lead in those things.

One more thing though, it had nothing to do with upping my post count. I was just joking around.. which obviously didn't go over well. Oh well.. live and learn I say.

^ Well, thanks for posting this. I appreciate the fact that you at least addressed it with me.

I was just pretty annoyed when I logged off about noon yesterday...and when I peeked in early this morning, there was a locked thread and a sticky from Bonz in the forum.

I don't mind all the back-and-forth in the lounge. That is what the lounge is for. But the DS9 forum is not the lounge. In fact, even in this thread, which is perhaps closer to a lounge thread than any other in here, I have made a point of telling people that this is a community thread...not a lounge thread.

Anyway, apology accepted. Let's move on from here. And once again, thanks for at least responding to me - that was very considerate. :)

^ No problem. I was kind of surprised by what happened myself. Since it wasn't my intention to annoy or anger anyone, even though I obviously did, I felt that I really needed to apologize.

Besides, one good thing came out of it. I totally forgot about this place. Now I might actually drop by more often. :)

I'm with you so far.

This is where I have to disagree. Part of what made Dukat a great character to me was that he seemed almost schizophrenic in the way he felt towards Bajorans. I truly believe that he cared for them as much as he hated them on some level. His "development" in the final season was more than disappointing IMO. He just became evil, all the shades of gray, the schizophrenia, it was all gone. He was still a good villain though, just not as great as he was before.
