(I presume vaisseau interstellaire would be a better translation for 'interstellar vessel' but my French is a bit rusty).

I never bought that, but even if it were: so what? We still name things in Latin and Sanskrit, and so on.

(Of course, one could argue these languages never became 'obsolete' as they're still in use for religious and other purposes.)
