Random Off Topic: I've been meaning to ask how "Lef'tennant" is spelled in Britain? Is there an "F" in it, or is that just a pronunciation?I have always wanted to know why in English is it spelled Corps instead of like core???
Short answer: We stole most of our military vocabulary from the French, back when they were stereotyped as a military powerhouse. "Corps" is one of the less apparent examples, unlike rendezvous or maneuver or lieutenant.
As far as I know there is no F in it, just the way it is pronounced and spelled as Lieutenant (anyways I think)
