Babylon 5 - I'm finally going to do it

3) The weapons pod: ...

Even without knowing the original plan, at the time it aired, I thought the idea would have worked much, MUCH better if she just calmly pointed at the targets with an imperious finger and a hauty expression: You, blow up. Now you. Now you.

I like Legend of the Rangers. It's not perfect

I liked it too, and thought it was better than Crusade, but I also think that it's probably a good thing that it didn't go to series. If it had, it mostly likely would have been cancelled partway through it's first year like Crusade was.

I'll take 13 episodes with no conclusion over 1 episode with no conclusion. At least then we'd have a taste as to whether LOTR would have improved or not.

I don't think you can blame the series for the cancellation. A lot of things behind the scenes led to it being so short (And not even on the air) unfortunately.

I've become a real big fan of Podcasts this year, and Yesterday I decided to subscribe to the Babylon Podcast. So far it's enjoyable, and they still had the JMS Interview so I'm currently listening to part one.

I went back to read the thread based on this, and I don't want to bring up tired arguments (Nor should anyone else really) but I will say this is very interesting stuff, especially since I literally became a B5 fan over the summer. I really liked (Even though it was confusing as hell) his explaination about why B5 is never in reruns because of the chaotic business model of WB at the time and their harsh feelings on syndication and gaining new traction/viewers.

I have about 25 minutes to go in part I and then Part II but so far, very interesting stuff.

Part II of the interview is not as interesting as Part I (Still great though, getting into the head of the guy who created the series) but I'm at the part where he's talking about not being a people person, having his first experience with some friends at a beach when he was 17, and how his experience translated to the tight bond formed on the set. From going out and rescuing people from the fires to just hanging out, I didn't realize how tight of a bond this cast was and JMS bringing it out is quite interesting and gives another perspective on the show and why it worked.

I've got to say, I'm glad I downloaded this interview. A lot of interviews are just people coming out selling something, but this one just feels genuine and the amount of stuff he's bringing out (And yeah he's probably been talking about this stuff before, but like I said, I just became a fan so all this is new to me) is just really well done.

I think Summer and Tim did a nice job on the JMS interview. And while JMS has said a lot of the same things online or at appearances in the past, it's nice that it was in a conversational setting so that there could be follow-up questions.

I don't listen to the Podcast as often as I'd like but I enjoy their 'deep geeking' of the episodes even if I don't always agree with some points they're making.

^^ Memo to self: Bring speakers to work so you can listen to things like this while performing boring tasks.

I did have one complaint about the interview though. Was JMS Sick or did he just have a big frog in his throat. He cleared it a lot and it actually got a little distracting.

I wasn't aware that I was blaming Crusade for it's cancellation.

Looks like this whole "let's rewatch B5" bug is catching as even Claudia Christian is at it, though in her case she says it's her first time, but it's close enough.
I happened across the links on the B5 Podcast site and you can find them here.
Damn, she doesn't pull her punches, comparing O'Hare to John Wayne in a neck brace, or that really irritating actress from 'By Any Means Necessary'. You know the one I mean.
On the up side it looks like I'm not the only one that doesn't hate 'TKO'. ;)

I didn't hate TKO. It's probably on page 2 of this thread as to why but I actually don't have a problem with it as many other people do.

And I noticed CC has started rewatching B5. That's kinda cool.

You might have implied it. if I mis-inferred, than my apologies.

Thanks for the link to Claudia Christian's rewatch... A very amusing read, and it will be interesting to follow.

Strange that she's never seen the show (except 3 whole episodes) before this rewatch started - but I suppose it makes sense. In your spare time as an actor it might be nice to concentrate on other things.

That's funny, she claimed to watch the entire series for the first time ever when she was going to write her book for Mongoose.

I remember in the commentary for "Interludes and Examinations," Boxleitner was trying to figure out what the hell was going on when Sheridan had the dream where he saw Kosh as his dad, since they weren't really paying attention to the episode while they were recording the commentary, and he had a bad head cold when they shot the episode, so he wasn't fully up to speed even then.

3) The weapons pod

:scream::scream::scream: :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall: :scream::scream::scream:

actually, if you can get past that, it's not a terrible hour of tv. not great (but then most of the great parts of b5 were the result of hours and hours of build up, see, e.g., Point of No Return).

it would have been nice to see more of the post-lyta g'kar (though i don't think he was going to be a major part of the cast). but i can't say i'm too disappointed that the show wasn't picked up. that said, i think there was some superbowl/9-11 ratings fiasco that had something to do with that?
