Babylon 5 - I'm finally going to do it

... that said, i think there was some superbowl/9-11 ratings fiasco that had something to do with that?

Yeah. Some massively important football game had gotten rescheduled due to something having to do with the events of Sept. 11, 2001 so that the game and "Legend" overlapped on the East coast (and part of the midwest?). The were great on the West coast where there was no scheduling conflict. Bottom line was, overall the ratings weren't enough to overcome some ownership/financing skirmishes between Sci-Fi and WB so everybody decided they'd rather own 100% of nothing.

You'd think that sort of thing would have gotten sorted out before they even produced a pilot. I mean what's the point if there's no agreement in the event of a green light?

So the first season I get that I'm happy with is Season 5. Looking forward to getting season 1. Really want to see episodes like Signs and Portants again, now that I know the story.

Out of curiosity, is the pre-title scene from 'Fall of Centauri Prime' missing from your set? I'm just curious if amazon are still putting out the faulty stock. I never did get around to getting mine sorted out.

I haven't seen it yet, but thanks for reminding me about something. When I saw it the first time, it went directly to the credits so there was no pre-title sequence. That kinda sucked, especially coming off the heels of Movements of Fire and Shadow and that absolutely brilliant ending.

EDIT:

It does have the pre-title sequence, and man that momentum was definitely maintained. I still say the bombardment of Narn was better (Mainly because of those huge ass weapons, which I forgot what they were) but the Centuri sequence gives it a run for it's money. Everything indeed goes to hell.

Those weapons in "The Long Twilight Struggle" were called 'mass drivers'.

Just got Seasons 1, 2, and 4 today. Just need one more than I have the series. Really looking forward to starting it back up again. Love the fact that these sets include the original episode previews, which do bring back a ton of memories.

Wouldn't it be cool to rip those episode teasers and meld them into one single video?

There was a possible writers/actors strike that was coming up back then, I think Sci-Fi was just scrambling to get some original programming. Everything about the movie was a bit rushed.

Well, I started my trip through B5 the second time with Midnight on the Firing Line tonight. I'm not going to review every episode again but I'm not entirely sure I talked about this one like I did with the others. Let's just say it was a decent start to a show that was going to get so much better. Having said that, Man I'm glad Ivanova got better. She's one of my favorite characters, but I forgot how unlikeable she was, especially in this one. As for the whole Narn/Centauri thing, this is the kind of thing I'm looking for. The foreshadowing with how Mollari is going to die, to how the roles will be reversed later on and both races really do not come out on top over the other. Blood for Blood indeed.

"The wheel turns, does it not Ambassador?"

and I will supply quotes from the episodes on which you do comment.

I like this!

:techman:

"I will confess that I look forward to the day when we have cleansed the Universe of the Centauri and carved their bones into little flutes for Narn children. It is a dream I have."

Another good quote from Midnight on the Firing Line. Such a cultured way for G'Kar to wish for the extermination of an entire people.

If I had one B5 wish, I'd wish that my first two viewings could be wiped from my mind so I could experience them again.

If I had two B5 wishes, I'd wish to be able to watch the show again with somebody new to it so I could experience it again through their eyes.

I loved this show and Londo and G'Kar were two of my favourite characters, their banter was always priceless.

I got my final season (Season 3, the best one) today in the Mail and they all work. I can't believe this second half of the year. I go from finally getting motivated to watching B5, to watching more than just the series, to actually buying the series in DVD.

I did have something to ask that is unrelated to the DVDs though. Does anyone remember when the Babylon Podcast interviewed Claudia Christian in 2006? Well, I heard that interview last night and one thing came up that made me curious. She mentioned she was watching all the episodes to do a book (I guess it's a bit of an autobiographical thing) and the reason my I got curious was the news this week that she was going to rewatch the series for the first time. I know two years is a while, but I wish I could rewatch the series for the first time twice. That would be awesome. ;)

Also, it was very interesting hearing her take on why she wasn't in Season 5. Not sure how that movie turned out, but it sounded like she got screwed. They say the show is over, she takes on another project, and the show isn't over. If there was one missed opportunity from the JMS interview, it was asking about why Christian didn't return for Season 5 and getting his side of the story. Also, I wonder how Season 5 would have been different had Ivanova still been there. Evidently there was a storyline regarding her and Byron, so maybe it was for the best. Still, it is interesting that everyone came back and she was the only one who had an "issue" (Or falling out) with the final season.

Back in the 1990's, Babylon 5 never really interested me, and was a niner. A few years ago, I got an old VHS of two episodes. So that changed my opinion.

Anyways earlier this year over a few months, watched all 5 seasons of the show. Damn impressive. Actually at the moment I'm thinking about watching the show again sometime soon.

Yep... Truth is a three-edged sword indeed. (my side, your side, and the actual truth)

I suppose in a way it closely mirrors the Terry Farrel situation on DS9. :) (another way they were copying) :D :D
