Axanar dropped a plot spoiler about a month ago

Superspace. They film in January. What's your rush?

He done paid fifteen dollars. Man pays money like that, he don't tolerate no changes in schedule.

So what about his fifteen dollars? Huh? What about his fifteen dollars. Are we gonna reimburse him? ;)

They were supposed to film in 2013! Look, I get the fact the project has changed and they want to put out the best product they can. I respect that. But really what I listened to in that podcast didn't make me want to support them any more than I already have. It might not be the case in reality, but here they come off as arrogant, self-important assholes where it's "People are criticizing me! I can't deal with it! They should shut uuuuuup!" and "JJ's movies suuuuuuck!" They have chosen to be in the public eye. They need to learn to (1) be diplomatic; and (2) accept criticism.

That last ones a big one. I went back to the top of the old Axanar thread and someone suggested Peters go into the fan art forum and Peters shut the person down saying "We know what we want." Okay. Fine. There are better ways to say that. Or just ignore it. One of the things I respect about Tom here in the Renegades criticism, is from what I've seen he's ignored it. And I applaud him for that.

In July of 2014 Axanar raised money with a goal of having the film released in spring 2015... No film.... July of 2015 comes around and now, we are told that filming will start in October no, January of 2016, and that will only be as we raise funds in 330k increments... Meanwhile, the Prelude DVDs are just now shipping with an initial estimated delivery date of May of 2014... and before you say anything about how long it takes to make such things.... The last kickstarter ended over a year ago... And is the donors page has yet to be updated with donors from that fundraiser.... Over promising and under delivering....

Well said. Agreed, on all points, 1000%.

OK. Fine. I don't care about delivery dates. I care about quality of product. Given Super's attitude, I sure hope he didn't donate to Space Command, or he's going to be really upset.

Peters in particular can be a hothead, as we've seen multiple times. That's a weakness; on the other hand the endless stream of implications from some quarters that he's defrauding people or mismanaging funds would test the patience of a saint. A saint he ain't, but I can understand his having little patience with that. Likewise with the long, long refrain of "where are the CBS lawyers" (even the recent Wrap story, which wasn't able to get much in the way of committal comment out of CBS, was ultimately just a variation) -- who knows that they may still show up, but from some quarters the endless droning about this point sounds more aspirational than analytical and I can understand losing patience with that, too.

There's also a certain irony in that all the complaints about how thin-skinned Axanar is often seem to come from people who are themselves incredibly -- often absurdly -- thin-skinned. Which, you know... sometimes it can be a useful idea to practice what you're preaching.

If people are going to blow budgets and miss delivery dates, that's fine, they need to be contrite and apologetic about it...ESPECIALLLY when they want me to reach for more money!

That's fair, BigJake. Still, maybe Alec should get someone to handle PR. So he doesn't have to. Just because he's the head of this project doesn't mean he needs to be the face of it.

They seem to spread out the PR responsibilities a bit. Certainly agree that they don't need Alec responding to everything; hotheadedness aside he strikes me as one of those guys who's just fundamentally tactless.

One thing I have to add: You make the comment regarding critics of Axanar being thin-skinned. I'm not certain if that was an accusation my direction, but I am not in the public eye. It doesn't look bad on anyone but myself if I take something poorly. (While I have my moments, I think I do pretty well in that department.). But Alec and Axanar are. Alec says the wrong thing, he could derail this project that's been his ambition. I'd hate to see that happen. All I'm saying.

How about spending less time on podcasts and more time on making the movie?

Of course if they did this, the line would be: "Man, those Axanar guys are full of themselves. They can't even be bothered to communicate with their donors. How hard would it be to set up a regular podcast?" :techman:

This.

On another note, I'm wondering how much longer this thread will be open. Of course the majority of the action is Axanar/Peters/ect bashing, so it may stay open for quite awhile.

We've seen what happens though when Axanar's more vocal defenders step up...

Pardon my cynicism...

Why close the thread though, many here have contributed money to the project and they have a right to talk about, either good or bad. Just take the good with the bad and try to make some Andorran lemonade. ;) Now where did I put my popcorn...

No one's been bashed. We're sitting here having a discussion.

When exactly did people get so thin skinned?

I'm inclined to agree. I have no problem with waiting for the production to be done, or the entertaining speculation that accompanies that wait.

I'm just amused by the fact that the production team uses their production to take pock shots at Abrams films and all the "true Trek" stuff that grates at me. I've been a part of fan productions before where we constantly tried to top what other productions had done and insist that we were better for whatever reasons. That film didn't end as well as we had planned.

I guess all I'm saying is that I'm cautious when I hear rhetoric like that.

I am actually impressed that aside from a few barbs, this has largely stayed on topic, and not personal.... So not sure why anyone would get their panties in a bunch.... But this conversation has pretty much become circular.... I have stated my beefs with this project, as a donor (I know not a big donor).... No one has been able to address my concerns without sounding like Donald Trump on the campaign trail....
