Avengers Infinity War (and beyond) anticipation thread

Regardless of the quality of the Thor films(I think they're both good, but also the weakest films of their respective Phases), Hemsworth is really great as Thor. I'm hoping that Ragnarok is a great final solo film for the character. He's definitely going to be missed when Hemsworth is done playing the role.

Chris Evans about his contract re Avengers 4: “I had six films in my Marvel contract, so I could have said after the third Avengers I was done, but they wanted to make the third and fourth Avengers films as a two-parter,” he said. “They said they had so many other characters to fit in – Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Ant Man – and couldn’t get them all into one movie.”

So, that brings back up the question of to what extent 3 and 4 will be directly connected to one another.

Also, looking more and more likely that Evans will be done after these two. Though I guess you could interpret it as he agreed to extend the first contract for the good of the story, but would press for renegotiation for any more after that.

That is interesting, I wonder if this means we won't see everyone in Infinity War, or if they split it to give everyone more screen time in both movies?

Probably a bit of both. Some may only have a brief appearance in one and feature more prominently in the other. Plus of course they're not likely to have to worry about Captain Marvel in part 1 (pre-superpowers Carol Danvers might show up, however briefly. We'll see.)

i actually did read that article about Evans. It seems that he will just negotiate individual films from now on so that as long as he likes doing them (and they pay him enough) he will keep it up.

So 60+ characters, and one scene she's done that features up to 30 names. Me thinks a few geek outs are on the way next year.. :)

Working out how many known "Avengers" you could have, and as yet unseen but confirmed ones like the Wasp and Captain Marvel, I got to about the mid 20s. I suppose with the villains and whoever else thrown in (whether it be ancillary characters like Pepper Potts, Wong, Maria Hill, etc) then yeah I could see up to 30.

I think to get up to 60 they'd probably need the draft in Netflix & AoS casts....which would be awesome.
For a second I thought maybe former villains getting in on the act too, but there just aren't that many still kicking. Justin Hammer, Loki, Abomination and Mordu are the only ones that leap to mind.

Actually, just for funsies let's do a tally of already established hero characters, starting with the movies....
  1. Iron Man
  2. Hulk
  3. Nick Fury
  4. Black Widow
  5. Thor
  6. Hawkeye
  7. Captain America
  8. War Machine
  9. Scarlet Witch
  10. Vision
  11. Ant-Man
  12. The Wasp
  13. Black Panther
  14. Doctor Strange
  15. Wong
  16. Bucky
  17. Falcon
  18. Spider-Man
  19. Star-Lord
  20. Gamora
  21. Rocket
  22. Groot
  23. Drax
  24. Mantis
  25. Nebula
Well that gets us about half way there, lets see what happens when we tack on the people in TV land...
  26. Coulson
  27. May
  28. Quake
  29. Fitz
  30. Simmons
  31. Yo-Yo
  32. Mack
  33. Ghost Rider
  34. Deathlok
  35. Daredevil
  36. Punisher
  37. Jessica Jones
  38. Patsy Walker (Hellcat ?)
  39. Luke Cage
  40. Misty Knight
  41. Iron Fist
  42. Colleen Wing
Still over fifteen short, so lets add the left-over villains...
  43. Loki
  44. Justin Hammer
  45. Abomination
  46. Mordu
  47. Kingpin
  48. Red Skull
  49. Zemo
And the supporting casts I guess?...
  50. Sif
  51. Fandral
  52. Volstagg
  53. Hogun
  54. Maria Hill
  55. Sharon Carter
  56. Pepper Potts
  57. Happy Hogan
  58. Jane Foster
  59. Darcy
  60. Selvig
  61. Betty Ross
  62. Okoye
  63. Stan Lee

OK, some of those might be pushing it, but we did make it past 60. ;)

There's also Hank Pym, The Collector, whoever Peter Dinklage is playing (possibly Pip the Troll), probably Death, and perhaps resurrected Quicksilver and Yondu. Also, somehow you managed to forget about Thanos himself. ;)

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if someone from Nova Corps appears, whether it's Rhomann Dey, Irani Rael, and someone entirely new.

No one from AoS or the Netflix shows is gonna appear guys, quit dreaming. It will be an awesome surprise if so but I really wouldn't be expecting it

I think it's possible a quick moment or two featuring them on their own or part of a very large group is somewhat possible. Otherwise, I don't expect much. And we're allowed dream, aren't we? :p

Didn't forget Thanos at all; the tally was meant for the "goodies", (yes, including villains that might also oppose him.) He doesn't strike me as the sort to have large groups of individuals fighting for him, just a handful of minions plus hordes and hordes of nameless, disposable cannon fodder type baddies.

I did think about Nova Corps, but I suspect that they're going to get wiped out fairly early on, what with their sitting on an infinity stone that Thanos is certainly coming for. Same applies to The Collector.

I know. I think you missed the bit where I said "just for funsies". Also the bit where I counted Stan Lee! ;)

That said, the TV people account for almost a third of the tally, so if the 60+ named character figure is correct, that means without them, we're almost 20 short (and a bunch of the ones I did count like Abomination, Foster, Pepper & Darcy are almost certainly not going to come back at this point.)
So that means either we're getting 20-odd new named characters, or maybe, just *maybe* a few from TV land are going to get a little screen time. Quake and the Defenders seems like a no-brainer if that's the case. The latter grouped up with Spider-Man in the inevitable New York based scenes with the former tagging along with Nick Fury.
Hell, for Ghost Rider they don't technically even need Gabriel Luna. Just have him in flaming skull mode amidst a group of other supernatural types Strange wrangled together to fight. You can do that with a stunt guy if need be. He doesn't even need to say anything or even get named.

Which is fine for the 30 figure, but I believe the 60 figure refers to all Marvel characters that appear in the film, so Thanos, The Collector, Nova Corps would all fall under that number.

Nevertheless, that probably won't make up the difference. Like I said, drop the TV people (heroes and villains) and you're over 20 short of the total. Thanos, his goons & the named Nova Corps simply wouldn't add up to that much (10, tops!)
Which is sort of why I did the tally, to visualise what 60 named characters would mean. Even including the *very* unlikely I was really scraping the barrel just to make up the numbers.

Fair enough. However, I doubt they're creating that many new characters for the film, so I think it's slightly more likely that many of the "unlikely ones" might be included in some small fashion.
