"Avatar" Blu-ray/DVD thread

Re: Avatar Already Top-selling Blu-ray Ever

I know you're being sarcastic, but I will note that after seeing "Avatar" in IMAX 3-D twice, I like it A LOT more in 2-D on my TV on home. The biggest reason has been how much more vibrant and alive the movie is without the polarized 3-D glasses, which have the unfortunate effect of darkening the film. The movie also just looks sharper and it is easier to see how much detail and work there is in the background shots when your eyes arent forced to focus on what is popping off the screen.

Intriguing stuff; I noticed that the glasses darkened the film in the cinema, at one point I even took them off for five minutes or so. Still, I hadn't given it much thought after the fact. In that case I'll definitely be picking it up on Blu-Ray.

Yeah, I've especially noticed the darkening with animated films since they tend to be much more colorful than live actions films. I didn't really think about it with regards to "Avatar" until I started watching it. It was almost a shock to see the shot of the ship approaching Pandora...it was absolutely beautiful on my 52" LCD.

Sorry, didn't notice you were in Australia. In any case, maybe you can still sell off the DVD somewhere and recoup some of the cost.

Re: unofficial spec. features for Collector's Edition

I do not see audio commentaries included among the plethora of features which means I will probably not buy this.

I think it's just the normal version...a 3D version is supposed to be in the works. I am wavering on buying this lol...I just checked out the special features again and they're interesting. Maybe when this is officially announced in a few weeks that it will contain commentaries.

Re: "Avatar" 3D Blu-ray

Avatar 3D Blu-ray exclusively released with Panasonic 3D TVs and 3D Blu-ray Players

Panasonic has so far announced the Avatar 3D Blu-ray deal in Europe. I have not found an official announcement yet for the United States. High-Def Digest reports found though material that say that the Avatar 3D Blu-ray disc promotion starts on December 1st in the US.
