Ash vs Evil Dead (new tv series)

Actually they have complete access to AoD, the only film that they can use the entirety of other than Evil Dead 2 for the most part.

Evil Dead 1 they have to ask permission for every little thing from it, probably why the inclusion of material from it in the trailers and early episodes is so scarce and edited. The reboot used all of two audio tracks from the first film, I can't remember how much it cost but at ~1.5 minutes of audio it was ridiculous.

But it's tone is so different they just don't like using it. That and time travel opens up all sorts of weird problems for them.

Episode 8 Ash is acting like it never happened, Episode 9 he's cracking jokes about it, I think they just like to mess with the fans over it's status, like TAS.

Yeah, I was about to ask the same question, considering I had just looked it up before my previous response.

Are you sure about Army of Darkness?

And from Bruce himself:

Yeah, that's what I've been going by, as well. But even if they can't outright mention AoD, a few elements from the movie made the transition into the show, i.e. that he kept the name "boomstick" for his shotgun after all and that it's strapped to a leather holster in his back. Also, while his arrogant and smart ass persona debuted in Evil Dead II, his one-liners, default cynicism, and his being a real fool, but also his ability to inspire and lead, were cemented in AoD, and we get plenty of all that in the show with the Ghost Beaters.

I hadn't seen those articles, which is all the more weird given the Army of Darkness iOS game in 2012 using a ton of stuff from the movie. I guess it only applies to trying to tie it in to live performances?

Eh, ED2 is the best of them anyway. If they build off anything, it should always be that.

Holy shit, that was nuts y'all. A lot more intense than I thought it would be but I can't shake the feeling that they didn't really know what to do to end it. Ultimately I suppose we could blame Ash's concern for Pablo and Kelly keeping him from doing the right thing.

Talk about buckets of blood!

They are definitely setting up for season 2, although I wonder how they'll continue the story now that the "mystery" is gone.

Well crap, they actually did use the Abomination (and remaking Natalie's nail gun sequence...yeesh).

Mia was only able to kill it in the 2013 movie because she broke the loophole about the 5 deaths and maybe being it's "mother" meaning she had power over it.

I have no idea if it can be killed permanently without using the Book to do it. Or maybe not, Ruby is rewriting the damn thing now, I didn't get a good look at the pages she destroyed.

But if they're going with the same basic idea, it will only get bigger and stronger, in the series they're representing it as a child so we'll be getting the magically sped up growing process storyline.

But, her being half demon means the blade can hurt her, good to know.

Oh and poor Heather! I felt so bad for her:(

Ash: That lady has my book, and she has my Pablo. I gotta save him. I'm not losin' anybody else I care about.

Kelly: That includes me, right?

Ash: Of course.

Heather: And, and me.

Ash: Yeah sure, just, you know, stay close to her.
;)

Yeah, poor Heather didn't really deserve what she got.

Though personally, Pablo with that book on his face really got to me. I have a phobia of being stuck so that might have played a part but he looked really messed up. I couldn't figure out how they were going to get that off him without disfiguring him.

When Ash was looking on and that thing came out of Pablo's mouth I was shouting "Ash! Now is not the time to just hang back and see what happens. Do something!"

Ruby had her back turned so he could have easily blown off her head.

Anyone else spot what looked like Freddy's glove on the wall in the basement?

I felt like the excess gore and gross-ness took away from the story a bit. I forgot about why Ash wanted to stop Ruby until the last few minutes.

I know I'm a little late to the thread but I DVRed the entire season today and I'm going to binge watch them tomorrow.

Looking forward to it.

Yeah, the series has now out-gored everything in the movies. Season 2 will probably take that up a notch too.
