I'm pretty satisfied, and looking forward to next season. Things that really seemed to bother a lot of people (technology/ship aesthetics) didn't bother me much or at all. I thought the Klingon redesign looked goofy (Orcs from Lord of the Rings?), but I didn't cancel my subscription and start watching The Orville because of it like some people... This first season wasn't perfect- definitely some rushed storytelling, contrived plot points, and questionable direction to the story- but growing pains are to be expected.

My biggest qualm- I wish they could have come up with something better for Lorca than taking the mirror universe counterpart route- he was far and away the most compelling character on the show right up until that reveal. Early on, I thought we were watching a Section 38 story with a Starfleet captain toeing the ethics/morals line during a time of war, along with a quick, mostly inconsequential dip into the mirror universe. Turns out, that inconsequential dip into the mirror universe was pretty much the biggest plot point. Oh well. I realize retaining Lorca would require massive rewrites for the entire season, but he played a great captain, and would have been something to look forward to going forward.

That said, I don't write the show, just watch it. Overall a promising 7/10 for the season from me.

Oh, and I could have used more Landry. She was a looker.

I was satisfied and here's why:

There was no cliffhanger. Episode 9 was great but the 3 month cliffhanger did not add value for me.

The crew is intact - We have a working captain (Saru), first officer (Burnham) and crew.. They stood together in crisis.
The federation is stable (we don't know what peace was arranged with the Klingons).
The missions of the last 15 episodes have been completed (except for saving Pahvo, which is likely dead)

We got to see the Enterprise and it looked like it fit the discovery and TMP design lineage (though a bit plain compared to the Europa).

It's in "distress" but the ship is intact enough that I can wait to see how it plays out.

There are clear emotional stories to tell.
Enterprise becomes the banner ship for the Federation for decades to come. Decades Seeing where the two ships fit in with each other, culturally and mission-wise will let the show define what it is in a way that DS9 defined itself by how not Ent-D it was (and the Defiant defined itself years later by the contrast to the Galaxy class).

Spock, Burnham, Sarek and not Amanda are all meeting for the first time in a long time. Something about this meeting (and the meetings before) makes Spoke not use his famous family lineage in discussions with his future captain Kirk or ever mention his hero big sister beyond potentially mentioning the lack of mutinies in star fleet history. Captain Pike also goes from heroic captain to a career ending injury at some point, causing Spock to run his own mutiny.

I think this thread needed a better title because nobody is reading the OP... :p

As I said earlier it’s Missing a dome. Either deck one or deck two. Unless the new larger size is such as the two domes are combined into one. You can see the JJ/discoveryverse style bridge window. Dome appears two decks high so maybe that’s the case.
I’d prefer the spinning busard collectors to be less orange and more multicolored with oranges, pinks, silvers etc but that’s nitpicking
Not sure how much shorter the connecting dorsal actually is. Might be about the same. It comes further forward towards the front of the secondary hull. It’s wider so it may only look shorter
Otherwise fantastic effort aside from the B5 era level of rendering
Love to see a really good effects artist have a crack at it

Pretty much perfect, in my view. Updated enough to fit in, but classic enough to capture the essence of the original. Without any dialogue, you knew beyond doubt this was the Enterprise.

Totally with you here.

Now we'll all have to wait a year to see what the bridge looks like!
If it's got one turbolift off-center on the port side, a conjoined helm and navigation console with an astrogator in the middle, a black railing around the central area, and screens that have more colors than just blue, I think I'll have no problems accepting it as the Enterprise bridge as seen in The Cage. Heck, take away the second turbolift and the TMP bridge would work.

personally, even though I see it as another universe, I'd love to see them recreate the Enterprise sets as thoroughly as possible. It would also be a chance to show the old uniforms in that "some" ships have them, but most have the same as Discovery.

Also, since it's not enough of a topic to start a new thread, I'll ask it here. Anyone know when the new season will start?

Sometime in 1/2019, or there about.

I am extremely satisfied with the Discoprise. I feared they would over do it like that other Connie but they didn't and I am very happy!

Dare I say it, this one may finally knock the Original from my top shelf. Of all the variations of it I have seen this one is most beautiful.

I'm shocked at the amount of people who either felt a thrill at seeing the Enterprise, or nerdrage at some minor visual retcons.

I felt nothing, other than amusement at what obvious pandering it was.

It's hard to see past the scintillating cloud of smug, sometimes. :)

I found it a nice visual connection. Call it fanservice, call it unnecessary, etc, but it worked fine for me in the context of the show. They received a distress call, Discovery responded. It's not out of the norm than Enterprise responding to another Constitution class ship in distress, or what not.

If if is treated as a reboot it is no less disconnected than anything else.

I'm not opposed to it showing up per se. But it was pretty clear - particularly with the cut to black and the TOS theme music - the purpose of the shot was to reassure us that things are going to be "back to normal" in the Trekverse.
