Are people really this fixed on things like the Bell Riots?

If anybody really wanted to predict our near future, they don't need to use Star Trek, all they'd have to do is look to our past.

Though we are a couple of years off, we've already ditto'd the 1918-1920 Pandemic.
(fortunately with a lesser number of deaths so far)
Thanks to President Biden's efforts, we are somewhat into the possible best years of the 2020's. (copying the 'Roaring 1920's)
With the advent of Convict Don's second term, there is a strong likelihood to see the US economy crash by 2029. (1929 Stock Market crash)
The only other thing left to repeat would be a European caused Third World War, and again, if Trump gets his way with letting Putin overrun Ukraine, there is also a distinct possibility of that happening by sometime in the next decade or so.

Of course none of this is for certain, but we sure seem to be heading down a somewhat similar road that this Country has unfortunately traveled before.

At my age I'll probably be lucky not to live long enough to see if the world is once again brought to the brink, but it is interesting to see how much history really does repeat itself.

The Spanish Flu and Covid are not comparable. I don't know anyone who died of Covid, not one person. I'm not denying the pandemic, just denying that it's comparable to the Spanish fly. I almost myself almost died of Covid 3 years ago. Part of why I almost died, my family wrote it off as, "Oh, it's basically the flu." :scream:

President Biden's got dementia and has no idea what the hell he is doing. I can't wait until he's out of office and our economy gets back on track. The 2020's have been the shittiest decade since I joined the work force.

The economy was booming under Trump, why do you think it won't be booming under his second term?
Why do you call him Convict Don? What's he convicted of? Anyone can call someone they don't like a silly name, but this communicates zero information.

Under Trump's first Presidency, we were not involved in any wars, were we? Why would his 2nd Presidency be different? Why do you think Trump wants to hand over Ukraine to Putin? What is the motivation and gain?
Of course none of this is for certain...
Then why bring it up?
At my age I'll probably be lucky not to live long enough to see if the world is once again brought to the brink...
The world is not on the brink. Turn off the TV, get off your phone, go outside. It's a beautiful day.

Okay people, that's enough of the religion debate. If you want to have discussion on religion, start your own thread in the appropriate forum.

You know what else isn't cool bro? Flaming. See point 2 of the board rules.

Needless to say, you have been issued a warning. Comments to PM.

To anybody with a shred of critical thinking, Biblical fundamentalism is a total crock. If that’s the path you tread, you’re beyond help.
Can these posts by mods please be harmonized?

Seven million people worldwide so far, have died from COVID complications, that would probably still be alive.
Just because you don't know anybody personally who has died, doesn't mean crap to the millions of families that have.

President Biden in his first two years got more done to assist the US economy in getting back on its feet than any other President in our history.
Your feelings about his mental acuity doesn't change that.

Trump brought the "roaring" economy that President Obama gave him, crashing to its knees by the third year of his term.
That was well before President Biden took over.

Convict Don was found guilty of 34 criminal counts by a jury, just because he managed to stave off his sentencing, doesn't change that fact either.

Trump managed to completely disrupt the Middle East even more so than it already was, by letting 5000 taliban free with no pre conditions and began the US pullout of Afghanistan which left another absolute mess for President Biden to deal with.

You can try to sugar coat all that with your nonsense, but it doesn't change the facts as they stand today.

And that is the end of my conversation with you. Have a loverly time drinking all that Trump Kool-aid.
I'm done dealing with idiots such as you.

I am very tired, and given you took the time to write a long message, I want to reply with an honestly open mind and really think about what you said tonight. If you don't mind waiting, I'll bookmark and reply in the morning. I want to be thoughtful and not late-night bitchy.

"Back in the U.S.S.R." is actually a real Beatles song with an interesting history:

Like "Revolution" and "Piggies," "Back in the U.S.S.R." prompted immediate responses in the US from the New Left and the Right. Among the latter, the John Birch Society's magazine cited the song as further evidence of the Beatles' supposed pro-Soviet sentiments. The line "You don't know how lucky you are, boys" left many anti-communist groups stunned. In Riley's view, the song's mocking tone and communist setting thereby had "the desired effect of inciting the [ire]" of the John Birch Society, who misunderstood the lyrics' "sympathetic socialism."
Ian MacDonald described the song as "a rather tactless jest," given that the Soviet Army had recently invaded Czechoslovakia and thwarted that country's attempt to introduce democratic reforms. Some members of the New Left also criticised the Beatles for this gesture. During the 1960s, the Beatles were officially derided in the Soviet Union as the "belch of Western culture." David Noebel, a longstanding critic of the Beatles' influence on Western youth, said that: "The lyrics have left even the Reds speechless."
Writing for the website Russia Beyond, Tommy O'Callaghan describes "Back in the U.S.S.R." as a "parody that became a peace offering." He says that, just as the Beatles provided a source of unity with the West for contemporary Russian music fans, the band set out to mock the "new Western narrative" presented by both McCarthyism and the New Left. Aside from the send-ups of the Beach Boys, Berry's "flag-waving" song and Prime Minister Harold Wilson's "I'm Backing Britain" campaign, O'Callaghan views the references to Russian girls as mocking the "perceived unsexiness" of Soviet culture and says that the song's true satirical qualities are in "its portrayal of Russians and Americans at parity."
Although the Beatles never performed in the USSR, Elton John was permitted to visit the country in 1979 in a historic concert tour, which Billboard magazine referred to as the first there by an "out-and-out rock artist." He sang "Back in the U.S.S.R." as his closing song throughout the tour, ignoring an official request after his opening show that he not do so. Video from these concerts appeared in the documentary film To Russia With Elton.

The economy was booming under Trump, why do you think it won't be booming under his second term?

Because the United States doesn't exist inside a bubble and the world is in a very different situation than in 2016?

Why do you call him Convict Don? What's he convicted of?

Since you asked... he was convicted of 34 counts of falsification of business records in the first degree, which is a felony.

Each count carries a maximum sentence of four years in prison and a $5000 fine, meaning 34 counts would carry a theoretical maximum of 136 years in prison and a $170,000 fine, assuming the prison sentence was ordered to be served consecutively.

But we all know the Convict in Chief will not see one day inside a prison cell.

Admiral Jean-Luc Picard, why do your posts invariably have to spiral into rants about your political, social and religious views? It’s getting a bit exhausting. Can’t we just discuss Star Trek?

Signed,

Captain/Prophet Benjamin Sisko.

Why is it OK when other people engage in such topics, but when I post a reply, it's suddenly exhausting and inappropriate? Why are you singling me out and not others who do the same?

Because I don’t see other people tending to do it across the board. But, hey, you made an impression, what can I say.
