The trailer is gorgeous but it does look rather by-the-numbers. I still haven't watched Justice League so I don't have any preconceptions about Jason Momoa's performance as Arthur. More of I'll see it when I see it more than anything else.
Momoa as Aquaman and Affleck as Batman were the best parts about JL (and maybe Gadot's Wonder Woman too but then her movie is the best DC movie yet and high ranked amonsgt comicbook movies in general, at least for me) so i have hopes for this movie but being burnt repeatedly by DC i'm very cautious.
Anyone think this movie, since it's an origin story for Aquaman, should have come before Justice League? I do.
And this is why DC is no match for Marvel. Marvel played the long game and built up the franchise from the ground. They got lucky of course by having this initial smash hit with Iron Man and casting Downey Jr. who has become the face of Marvel movies but still there are few if any real duds in what amounts to 20 movies now.
DC panicked when they saw Marvel take off and reap huge bank at the box office but they were impatient and didn't take time to really develop their characters properly.
Superman is grimdark and serious all the time (not that he's a comedian but he's still not a blue/red version of Batman), Green Lantern bombed horribly and the first huge tentpole movie with Superman vs. Batman also didn't take off critically and with the fans (though it still did well at the box office).
Wonder Woman is the first movie that actually worked on all fronts because they got the team right.. a director who understood and presented the character well, a good story and perfect casting. Had DC started their franchise with this movie and kept up the same level of quality as Marvel their franchise would also only get better with time.
Justice League, their version of the Avengers, just fell flat because they had to introduce quite a few characters and get Superman back into the mix which took up half the movie, the villain was very weak (granted, Marvel also has that problem for the most part) and the story was not that engaging.
Excuse the rant but you are right of course.. they should have shamelessly copied the Marvel method and introduce each character properly and give them at least 1-2 movies to develop before going for the big one.
