Apollo and "the one"

Good. Since your entire comment was "Article quotes Star Trek historian Marc Cushman," it carried the unspoken implication "...so there's no point in reading or believing any of it" to me. :)
No, just sad to see one more piece of evidence that the wid er world considers him an authority. His whole saga has been very instructive to me, esp. as a history major.

"A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is putting on Its shoes."

(Interestingly & somewhat ironically, it seems that it's unclear who originally came up with that quote: Link)

For whatever reason, Cushman has been able to corral a number of Trek-related actors, etc. to affiliate with and endorse him (David Gerrold's upcoming book A Road Less Tribbled will be published by Jacobs/Brown Press).

Interesting! I didn't know that that was in the works. Well, I'm sure that Gerrold's book will be much more accurate than I understand Cushman's are, as he was actually involved in the production of TOS.

Cushman might be a lazy historian, but no one has really dealt much with the 1970-75 period since we were in the period. The books I can think of are The Trouble with Tribbles, The World of Star Trek, Star Trek Lives! and Letters to Star Trek. It's bound to be interesting for fans over a certain age.

It's when I was first introduced to Star Trek, so the period 1970-1975 is extremely interesting. I just have no interest whatsoever in that author's treatment of it.

Doctor Sevrin's cult was all about becoming "ONE", but with what? Even though it seems to be an ideal belief of free choice, free love, free food, etc., the cult was trying to reach (pun intended) the planet Eden. Eden is biblical, so, are the hippies Christians? In the end, Eden was proved false. Was the writer/network trying to mock Christianity, and all other religions?
- If the Aurora had run into Sargon's planet, the results would be the same as for the Enterprise, because the only real struggle was between Sargon and Henoch. It would be almost the same episode of Star Trek, but with no Kirk and Spock.
Sargon (Herbert) = Doctor Sevrin
Thalassa = Irina (She's a kisser.)
Henoch = Adam (I'm practically ONE with this choice. We reach, brother!)

Paradise is such an ill defined concept. Eternal bliss for one is horrible boredom for another. I was trying to say in another thread, Eden is a concept rather than a set description or a name of an actual place.

That's funny and a great catch, though, Kirk's one and Adam's ONE probably are not the one.

Only Zathras can say.

Zathras is from another alternate reality, Mars! One where humanity tries to construct a fledgling alliance of planets to oppose a more deadlier race that is...Ooops! Sounds very similar!

Few people seemed absolutely certain about religion in the 60s. "We sort of believe, we hope it's true, but when it comes down to it, we don't know for sure". "We find the one quite sufficient" always did sound like backpedaling. I think the vision of the 23rd century wasn't religious or anti-religious really... more non religious than religious, but generally people are open minded, that's the main thing. And respectful of others, and they keep religion quiet and private.

Life and death, an evolution of sorts into the next phase of our existence! "Where's the hot dogs up here?" :wtf:

Here's an article from The Jewish Journal that contains the quote where Nimoy calls Roddenberry anti-semitic and takes a general look at Roddenberry's relationship with his many Jewish associates.

I asked Sheli about that, and he said, "Not only did Leonard say what he said, he faxed me a copy of my original piece in The Jerusalem Report, having made this contention, and he writes on it, 'Great Job Sheli — Thanks!'”

But, as he says in the article, it's probably not a black and white issue (or even a Jewish and Gentile issue! :) )

Yeah... well, Gerrold lost any faint residual respect I had for him by backing ol' Lord Foot In Mouth (LFIM) Alec Peters and some other things I've learned from people who were on set with him at the New Voyages fanfilms.
