Anyone watch Past Tense recently?

I remember watching this episode when it first aired and finding it hard to believe. These days the situation surrounding the episode seems more plausible. You know what's crazy too? In part 2 there is a debate over which baseball team is the best and one guy says the 99 Yankees. They won the Series that year....

During the filming of the episode one a city mayor or maybe state politician in the US came out with the idea of having contained areas for the homeless, along the lines of what the sanctuary districts were in the episode.

There was a proposal in Philadelphia recently for something very similar to the Sanctuary District if memory serves.

If you if you get the 3rd season of DS9 on DVD Ira Steven Beher talks about the making of "Past Tense" and where he got the inspiration. He's an interesting guy, I can see why Ronald Moore looks up to him.

The year the episodes take place is 2024, just about 15 years in our future. I'm not sure if we are headed in that direction, however, one never knows what the future holds in store. One could make an argument that a situation like this is a very real possibility, espically if things keep on going the way that they are.

On a side note in DS-9 Little Green Men, while Quark and Rom are taking Nog to Earth, Nog had recieved a PADD with facts about Earths history. He happens to find the section on The Bell Riots, and the picture is that of Capt Sisko, who, if you recall had to take the place of the real Gabrial Bell.
When he mentions that the picture look just like Sisko, Quark says all Humans look alike...

Given how often today, even in the US, people whose only crime is losing their job due to budget cuts etc. are just stuffed out of the way, or the ease in which people were crammed into Guantanamo Bay, I'd say we're well on in that direction and outta put the breaks on. The US is in recession, people are losing their homes left and right- where are they going to go? Are they going to be stuck in a stadium like the people in New Orleans and left there? I like this episode more than FBS for social commentary, I really do.
