Anyone still build models?

I just moved to a new office at work, and the new boss encourages people to personalize their work area. A couple guys have Star Wars stuff up, while the younger kids are into anime mechs. I feel the need to represent Star Trek. I have four model kits sitting on a shelf, unopened since I received them for Christmas ten-plus years ago. I want to build them and put them on my desk at work. The thing is, I haven't build model kits since I was in Boy Scouts back in the 70's. Wish me luck.

EDIT: So, which one should I start with first??

I've got the TOS Enterprise mounted on the hub of my printing press.Even the casual passers-by recognized it instantly. I'm planning on expanding from there.

The TOS Enterprise is always an excellent beginners kit. Especially at smaller scales. Go with that.

Round 2 is repopping kits from THE BLACK HOLE..including the Cygnus!
I have to confess, I never knew these kits existed previously. The Cygnus has been on my to get list since the movie came out but none of those kits ever hit the shelves in my area.

Repop of the Cygnus?? Huh.. Sweet.

Whatever happened with that Reboot from years ago? Dead I guess
I read somewhere a while ago that the purchase of Lucasfilm was the underlying reason that and other big projects were shelved. Don't know if it's a fact or not, but it's kind of played out that way.

I'm pretty sure I've doubled the weight on this thing with the amount of paint I've thrown onto it trying to light block it. I think it may finally be ready for its actual colour basecoat.

Which kit is this?? Beause if there was ever a model out there that could tempt me to give this a shot, it's this one.

It's this one. But be warned, it's not for the faint of heart. Multiple pieces have been warped or missing. Plus, there are massive gaps between pieces that shouldn't be there. It has not been a terribly fun build. Tho I do like the little Defiant it came with.

Looks incredible, tbh. Both the model itself, but also your build of it. Like @Mage I consider this the one model kit I might actually consider getting. But yeah, sounds like a proper pain in the ass to build.

Hm..... Well, I do like a challenge. I'll see if it's available in the Netherlands.

I always got the impression that it was all neutral gray with yellowish-brown detailing. This photo of the original filming miniature coveys it nicely, although the warm ambient lighting does give it a hint of yellow overall:

I think we're all victims of "palette indoctrination".

For example, Federation vessels and stations seem to lean towards the cool gray/white/duck-egg blue palette of the color spectrum. Klingon vessels are gray/green with red trim and lighting. Romulans are gray/green with blue/teal trim and lighting (TOS BOP notwithstanding). Cardassians seem to be yellow/brown with bright orange and red lighting. I think, because we know their ships to be all yellow/brown, that we assume that their stations (of which Terok Nor/DS9 and Empok Nor are members) should also necessarily be all-yellow/brown, but they're not. They definitely appear more gray that anything, with yellow/brown accents.

Just my $.02 worth, anyway. in any case, it's a very nice paint job, and it's your model. You finish it as you see fit.

In terms of an alternative to concentric deflector grid patterns on saucers—there is something called a Smith chart that looks perfect for a TMP era Yamato from Klingon Academy

At the risk of opening a giant can of worms, but I'm seeing conflicting data online: are ST:TOS Federation ships white, off-white, light grey, or silver (or something else)???
