Anyone ever tried Somae Health?

First off, if this belongs in the Sports and Fitness forum, feel free to move it. Most similar threads were posted here in Misc so I'm starting it here.

I know it's a long shot, but has anyone here ever tried the Somae Health plan (http://www.somaehealth.com/)? It was recommended to me by my doctor, a fully certified physician. According to what I read about it, it seems like it's a really good plan, but I wondered if anyone else had tried it and what their results were. My doctor did it and dropped 45 pounds in three months; the average is supposed to be around 35 in that time period.

It's basically a "caveman" type of diet - no processed foods, but you can eat meat, fruit, vegetable, nuts, berries - any type of whole foods. You also take a hormone (or supplement) that is supposed to cause rapid weight loss (5-7 pounds a week). My doctor says it's safe and it obviously worked for him, he looks great.

The reason I'm looking to lose weight is because I just got my results back from my blood tests, and they aren't good. I was diagnosed last year with diabetes, and he says if I don't get them looking better, I'm going to have to go on insulin, which I do not want to do. I'm motivated to do this the way my doctor wants me to.

The only negative is the cost - $849 for a 3 month program, although once you get started you have the tools for life. Certainly it's a lot cheaper than the cost of insulin, medication, and even Weight Watchers in the long run. Not to mention the medical cost if I ever developed serious complications from it.

Anyway, I'm looking for feedback from people who have used this plan or know someone who has. Thanks!

I have never heard of this program, but it seems like a silly investment to me when diet and exercise are a far more natural solution. Does the $849 include the food for the plan? If not, then what are you paying for? A weight-loss supplement? There are plenty of those on the market that don't cost nearly that much money.

I didn't intend this to be a referendum on whether or not one should pay for a diet plan or not. I know how to reduce my calorie intake and exercise, and I could do that if I wanted. But I know myself, and I know that over the last 20 years or so of my adult life, it doesn't work for me, at least, not on a sustaintable basis.

For the record, for $849 I not only get the 6 weeks of supplements, but a book about what I can eat on the plan, some smoothies (not sure exactly how many), a cookbook, access to their online portal, and most importantly, a personal mentor who I talk to once a week who will help me through the plan, and keep me accountable. It does seem like a lot of money, but I'm fairly desperate to find something that works and can reduce my weight and improve my health.

I'm guessing since noone replied that there isn't anyone with personal experience with the plan. I did go ahead and sign up for it - here's hoping to good results.

I find it odd that a doctor would recommend anything that costs money, as in a program like that.
Most doctors seem to be a little more "traditional" so to speak. They don't actually take a lot of classes on nutrition (understandably so ) so most tell people to eat more fruits and vegetables and walk more. The same stuff most people will tell you.

I do think that people can lose fat from cutting out starches and refined starches and it's always a good idea to eat more veggies and meat, but that $800 cost is silly.
I also don't think there's a special hormone that promotes that kind of fat loss, much less weigh loss.

I 'm 255lbs now, but not completely out of shape, as I lift weights regularly (pics in my profile) but I one time went hard to lose weight and got down to 195 (at 6') and I used the Body for Life plan from the book of the same name.
It's a basic weight training and cardio plan with sensible eating. I recommend checking that out. You don't even really need to buy the book anymore as most everything you need to know is online at their website ( www.bodyforlife.com) Sure the book recommend some supplements, like protein powder, but they don't, and nobody should, make extraordinary claims about it.

My doctor suggested I look into Somae Health because my triglycerides were way up and my sugar has been climbing and I am overweight and I've tried the diet/exercise route to no avail.

I just spent $1000 on the Better Body Challenge and competed with about 20 others which was a mistake. I hate competition so I usually self-sabotage (which I did at the end). The Challenge was not well administered (which I should have researched better). I only lost 17 pounds but I learned about ketosis and carbs vs. protein and where to find what. But that was alot of money and I feel I didn't get my money's worth.

I read the remarks after you posted your question and I would say that the money back guarantee is the clincher for me to try this again. I was very disheartened after that last financial loss but this looks 100% better if not better than that. I'm signing up tomorrow when the lady calls me back. How did you do on it? If you would rather not post here, email me at my log in name @ yahoo.com.

You folks sound like you're getting ripped off. It sounds like the latest fad/diet plan. Seriously, unless you have a health condition that prevents fat from properly metabolizing, if you consume fewer calories than you burn, you will lose weight. The exercise will then tone your body.

That's an awful lot of money to spend on a diet plan. If you have the money and are comfortable with it, and your doctor approves, then no one has any right to keep you from doing it. However, I will join in the ranks of those who try to disuade you. It sounds like a major rip off.

You would do better to invest that cash in a nutrition class and a gym membership.

Sounds like a complete waste of money to me, you'd be better off concentrating on whole life changes over time rather than fad diets.

Hey, I forgot this thread even existed.

I did do the Somae plan. It was most definitely NOT a ripoff. For the first time in my life, I'm happy with my weight and the way I look and feel. In the 12 weeks I was on the plan I lost 57 pounds, and in the 3 months since then, I've lost another 25. For the first time in my adult life, I'm under 200.

I've been back to the doctor and ALL of my numbers are now normal, including A1C, cholesterol, blood pressure, and triglycerides. I've been off my diabetes medication since March and just last week he said my diabetes is GONE. I have to maintain the weight loss, but he said I just added 15 years to my life.

The plan was tough but if you are disciplined the results will happen. I'd highly recommend it to anyone. Best $900+ I ever spent.

Few years ago i have 190 lbs weight and i was very curious to lose my weight. I made a plan of exercise and dieting. I performed these programs regularly and lose 40 lbs weight just in 50 days.
