Anyone else feeling disappointed with the look, leaks etc

Re: Anyone else feeling disappointed with the look, leaks et

^ The cynisum around here is downright discusting tho' it's hard to be all optimistic when everyone's like doom and gloom, the new film is going to suck, blah blah blah, where's Shatner, blah blah blah, why is the ship being built on the ground, blah blah blah, on and on and on.

Star Trek fans seem so closed minded right now.

I'm useully a cheerful fellow, but I think the over all negitive mood around here has me in a negitive mood. It's no wonder i'm snippy. Meh, i think i just need a break from this site over the weekend, watch a few DVD's.

EVERY incarnation of Star Trek re-hashed the character of Spock:

TNG: Data (Blatantly)
DS9: Odo (Less Blatantly)
VOY: Seven
ENT: T'Pol

Well, heck, then in the case, they should do a 5th series in which the Spock clone is a shapeshifting transexual catsuit wearing android...played by Zachary Quinto.

There's plenty of us brimming with optimism Woulfe. It's just the pessimistic ones are more inclined to post their gripes. ;)

I feel quite happy about it so far.

It used to be that most Trek fans were known for being open minded, now unfortunately its the reverse. Their brains are stuck in the past. Its time to evolve a bit.

I enjoyed Cloverfield, and MI:3.. I like what these guys are saying about the new Trek film. I think it will be pretty good!!

Cloverfield wasn't really for me, there were bits that I enjoyed but I thought the acting was very average, it was way over-rated by critics and over hyped. If they add this whole wobbly camera business, and start shooting the Trek movie on a hand held then I will be really disappointed.

I am cautiously optimistic about this film. While I would have liked to see the original grey lady on the big screen I am open to them changing the design. They did it in TMP and the refit is a fantastic looking ship.

As to whether it is a prequel or a reboot a la "Battle Trek: Enterprise", this is something that does concern me. Im' okay with a reboot as long as it stays true to the original principles Gene Roddenberry laid down for Star Trek. If people want to see so called gritty realistic sci-fi then they can go watch nBSG.

I seem to remember Ron Moore commenting on this a year or two ago. He said something along the line that Star Trek is not nBSG and never should be. Star Trek has a universe to itself.

Some people like the BSG look, I think its ok but its not the look for Roddenberry's Trek. The new Battlestar had a great start but suffered from poor story telling and a badly handled franchise, it has jumped the shark.

So, it's alright for people to keep on praising Abrams, but no dissention is allowed?

I welcome all opinions on Abrams in this thread
Personally I'm not pleased with the 'look', the new vision of the ships interior is too dark, too dull, too goth and you known what they say
if it ain't broke...

Oh please. The modern series didn't recycle TOS.
They used their own characters. That's still brand new within the context of Trek.

There will always be a reaction with this character issue - look at the people who made the characters over the years Shatner is Kirk. Nimoy is Spock (yeah I know about that book). I have great respect for the new onscreen actors, but I feel they will be doing impersonations not the real McCoy.

Re: Anyone else feeling disappointed with the look, leaks et

my god this is the most bizzare thread I've ever read here

Let's see, Razor and a Season 4.

Every Trekbbs thread devolves into a "I Hate..." thread.

Have you seen the pic of the new bridge?

I'm not sure I've seen interior pics and I've also seen pics of cast members like Zach Quinto as Spock, however I think some of the photos might be faked/photoshops

I agree that its way too early to pass judgment, some of the news I love some of the news I hate
I guess fans will just have to wait for it to hit the big screen and then judge for themselves

Re: Anyone else feeling disappointed with the look, leaks et

Answering the first post in the thread...yeah, I'm kinda feeling disappointed with the look. It's boring. It looks just like all other 21st century sci-fi stuff ('dark and gritty' = cool). Then again, I'm not surprised, as it's pretty much what I expected: silver ship, dark corridors, militaristic uniforms, and so forth.

Re: Anyone else feeling disappointed with the look, leaks et

A transition from the darker military type look to a lighter mood would be nice.

This is on both sides of the fence, though. There are a lot of pro-XI folk who seem to have a problem with anyone who doesn't feel 100% about the new movie. IDIC, people!

Re: Anyone else feeling disappointed with the look, leaks et

*wonders if IDIC will get a role in the new movie concidering theres two Spocks*

It's less about that and more about the same people coming in here proclaiming the film's failure and dissing the people involved without any real reason or purpose but to piss off the people who are psyched about the film.

There's IDIC and then there are just people who only want to piss on people's parades.

If being 'pro-XI' means to wait and see what the ship and the sets and costumes will look like or what the film is actually about befor judging it a failure... then I will gladly accept the title 'pro-XI'

Re: Anyone else feeling disappointed with the look, leaks et

Agreed, discussion is great buts its wayyyyyy too early to judge it.

In what time and place do people enjoy listening to other people complain?

Re: Anyone else feeling disappointed with the look, leaks et

to be disappointed at this stage has nothing to do with the product and everything to do with the person feeling disappointed
