I wanted to go to the one in Dallas recently, but I couldn't make it. They ended it early from lack of attendance I think. I hope that isn't a trend.

If you mean FedCon USA, from what I understand it wasn't so much lack of attendance as it was complete mismanagement, possibly including a bounced check to the hotel.

Media cons are alive and well: think ComicCon and DragonCon and Shore Leave (that last one being a fan-run, not-for-profit, terrific convention!).

Hey, another poster from my neck of the woods. Welcome!

I went to Vegas this year and had an absolute friggin' blast. Dragoncon is this weekend, Walter Koenig will be in our area for Windycon (military sci-fi convention), Shore Leave is in July...

There's lots of convention happenings all over the country, and since we're in the midwest there's a lot of options in every direction

There doesn't seem to be any Star Trek only cons anymore though. I guess because of the drop in popularity. Maybe after the new movie comes out it will pick up. I would definitely put on my on convention in my area (Northwest Indiana) if people were interested.
