Any Xena:WP fans on the boards?

No, that's not one I've read before but it is nice. Been at sea chasing pirates but never caught any.Soul Possession is marvellous but I'll comment more on that when you've finished rewatching. Is Many Happy Returns the last appearance of Aphrodite?

Chasing pirates? :wtf: Good god, love, what DO you do?

Alas... MHR is the last appearance of Aphrodite, just as SP is the last appearance of Ares & Joxer.

I feel season 6 is just one long "Jetsons" intro... Goodbye Virgil, Varia, Ephiny, Aphrodite, Joxer, Ares...

Hey Tim! If you liked Buffy... maybe you'd like Callisto: Warrior Queen!

I'm a sailor of the Queen.

As for the Xena/Buffy crossovers one fan theory is that Callisto actually IS the Slayer of her age gone rogue Faith-style, hence why she as a mortal woman can take on and nearly beat demi-goddess Xena.

When Callisto dies (the first time) Najara is called to be the next Slayer, hence her visions etc

Stay safe, Sat5.

So, if Callisto is a slayer turned bad, then isn't that also what Najara is? A slayer turned bad?

(Remember, I'm not a Buffy watcher yet, so I don't understand nuances in your argument.)

Ohhhh, now THIS X/B video is KEWL!!!!!

about joxter one he was a great addition to the girls. second I really hated the time jump and then just killing him off. ted raimi is a fantastic actor and I really liked him of seaquest and spider-man.

I forgot to ask, Saturn 5... where is this  Xexer fanfic which you so fondly recall?

Hey Tim, despite being killed off, ;) he returned once in the season 5 finale and in the season 6 clip show, "Send in the Clones" not to mention as the Roman centurion devoted to the Empress in "When Fates Collide" and as both himself AND as Harry in "Soul Possession".

Not bad for a dead guy. :)

Episode 132 season 6 #20 "Soul Possession"

ACT III concludes:

http://miroirdarc.com/xwp/s6/sp_2/xena_s6_sp_dArc_879.jpg

We're back at the old Temple of Dahak site where Gabrielle died.

http://miroirdarc.com/xwp/s6/sp_2/xena_s6_sp_dArc_933.jpg

We see Ares standing before an Altar with the three Fates... awaiting his bride. He doesn't have to wait long, as a vision in white, carrying a wild flower bouquet, steps from the shadows into the light.

http://miroirdarc.com/xwp/s6/sp_2/xena_s6_sp_dArc_887.jpg

After a moment, she walks over to stand beside the groom.

http://miroirdarc.com/xwp/s6/sp_2/xena_s6_sp_dArc_893.jpg

Ares: “You are absolutely breathtaking.”

Xena:
(Promises, promises.) “Yeah? Then how come you’re still breathing?”

http://mikes-images.com/eps/sp/pages/sp_mq_299cd.htm

Joxer arrives, to be a mortal witness to this unholy union.

http://mikes-images.com/eps/sp/pages/sp_mq_302cd.htm

Clotho: “We have been called here today, to witness the union, of this god, Ares, and this mortal woman, Xena.”

http://miroirdarc.com/xwp/s6/sp_2/xena_s6_sp_dArc_900.jpg

Atropos: “The union which, Ares and Xena, are about to enter into... shall be eternal... and unbreakable, by gods or mortals. Any breach of their vows will result in anguish for both.”

http://mikes-images.com/eps/sp/pages/sp_mq_301cd.htm

Lachesis: “In the name of Zeus, do you, Ares, god of war, take this mortal woman, Xena, for your eternal partner?”

http://mikes-images.com/eps/sp/pages/sp_mq_303cd.htm

Ares: “Yes. Yes, I do.”

http://mikes-images.com/eps/sp/pages/sp_mq_307cd.htm

Lacesis: “And in the name of our mother, Goddess Hera, do you, Xena of Amphipolis... take Ares, god of war... for your eternal partner?”

Ares gives her an encouraging look...

Xena: “I do.............. not."

http://miroirdarc.com/xwp/s6/sp_2/xena_s6_sp_dArc_907.jpg

(She looks into the eyes of a surprised God of War)

Xena: "That’s a promise I just couldn’t keep.”

She slams her bouquet into Ares' chest, reaches out and grabs the marriage contract off the altar then runs out of the room...

Joxer:You tell him, Xena! Xena? you’re... you’re running the wrong way!”

Ares: (He shrugs as he looks at the Fates) “Well, this is embarrassing.”

http://miroirdarc.com/xwp/s6/sp_2/xena_s6_sp_dArc_925.jpg

Joxer: (Flexing a heroic mouth... if not a heroic "muscle") “Deal’s off, Ares. Let her go.”

****

http://miroirdarc.com/xwp/s6/sp_2/xena_s6_sp_dArc_955.jpg

Xena is back on the precipice of the lava pit, as her mind goes back to that horrid scene of Gabrielle falling into it... and dying.

[FlashbackXena: GABRIELLE!”

http://miroirdarc.com/xwp/s3/sacrifice2/xena_s3_sacrifice2_dArc_993.jpg

FlashbackGabrielle: “Xenaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!”]

Bridal-Xena: (Standing on the edge, rolling the contract into a tight fist, she says quietly) “I’m coming, Gabrielle.”

http://miroirdarc.com/xwp/s6/sp_2/xena_s6_sp_dArc_958.jpg

http://miroirdarc.com/xwp/s6/sp_2/xena_s6_sp_dArc_976.jpg

Ares: “Don’t tempt the fates, Xena.”

http://mikes-images.com/eps/sp/pages/sp_mq_319cd.htm

Bridal-Xena: (Whips off her veil and hands it to him) “The honeymoon is over, Ares.” [She yells as she executes a somersault as she dives into the shaft leading to the lavapit just as Joxer runs up]

Joxer: “Xena. No-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o!”

http://miroirdarc.com/xwp/s6/sp_2/xena_s6_sp_dArc_981.jpg

ACT III ENDS. FINALLY!!!!!

I don't think xena can wear white at this time. I mean really.

^^ Wellll.... it WOULD BE the first time Ares coupled with Xena while Xena's psyche was in residence. (Recall he has had sex with Xena's body at least once before but Callisto was in the "driver's seat" at the time.)

Tried to answer this last night but the board wouldn't cooperate!

What I was going to say was I went looking for X/A vids but got DISTRACTED by the Wonderful World of Disney!

What do the (few) Xena fans here think of each season of the show? Which did everyone like the most/2nd most, hate the most/2nd most?

I have seen the list of the 12 best/worst episodes somewhere (Season 5 had 4 worst episodes and 4 were in a 6 episode span in the middle of the season. Ouch) and know Xena had an active online fanbase, so those results (from Whoosh?) were as accurate as we'd get in terms of episodes from fans.

And what did people think about the jump into the future late in Season 5? It was a gutsy move, but it meant leaving everyone in the supporting cast behind. Autolycus, Joxer (essentially), and so many of the others (minus Ares). Season 6 had less slapstick than Season 5, but it did seem quite empty of all 12ish Hercules/Xena sesaons (actually closest to Hercules Season 1).

Season 5 suffers (and I DO mean suffers) from the 2 China eps... "Purity" & "Back in the Bottle" and ( SORRY Saturn5 :vulcan: ) "Married with Fishsticks".

Its hard for me to "pick" a fav season. It always seems "the one I'm watching" is my fav at the time. Its not that I'm fickle, but rather that I enjoy the totality of the experience. When one of Xena's primetime competitors closed shop the same year the series ended (Star Trek Voyager 2001) I spent 5 nights and countless hours pouring out my thoughts season by season, explaining why each one was precious in its own way.

Despite my immersion in the Xena subject these last 11 months, I do not feel adequate to do the same (just thank your lucky stars) for this show.

I will admit, that every season touches my heart.

I absolutely love the evolution of Gabrielle throughout the years, from village girl hiding behind the nearest rock while Xena fought the bad guys, to Amazon Princess, then Battling Bard, then Peacenik ( SORRY Saturn 5 ;) ) then Warrior Queen.

I loved the way she "rebelled" against the accepted standard of her day, and ran off to join Xena. (NMore fun than running off to join the circus!) I also loved it when she ran across her betrothed again, and became smitten by mid season 1 but STILL left to follow Xena. I really liked it when they met again in season 2 and she fell in love with him and my heart bled for her when he was killed.

Tim (?) has bemoaned the fact that TPTB made Callisto nice, but what I really like is that although TPTB did allow Gabrielle (and Hercules and Joxer) to have an impact on the humanization of XENA: WARRIOR PRINCESS, they never whitewashed her back story.

Xena killed hundreds if not thousands in her campaigns across Europe and the far East, not even counting what she did in Higuchi. She was not above lying, kidnapping, stealing and of course killing if it suited her purposes. And each time you thought it couldn't get any worse... ("Friends in Need") we learn evil Xena HAS done "worse".

Just as I liked how Evil Xena was truly evil... I also love the show's message of working towards redemption that comes through nearly every "week". As Kate Hepburn once suggested, stop boo hooing over your lot in life and the bad breaks you've been handed, and DO something to change it. Xena tried to "change it" on her own but couldn't. Still she eventually did recognize someone who could help her on this journey of redemption, and like any good commander, she took advantage of the people available to her.

I also like the show's message that a home is what you make, and its corollary that "family" isn't just a biological entity. Its a social construct. This is as true in ST:Voyager as in Xena:WP.

Regarding "definitive lists"...

Whoosh has an article in their archives from 4/2004 #88 detailing their "essential" and fans' "best" lists... unfortunately I can't link to it so just go to whoosh.org and click on articles and start scrolling down (No pun intended  )

That's what drew me to Xena in the first place (started with Hercules in Season 1, saw the 1st few Xena eps, tuned out, tuned back in periodically, then regularly later in Season 1). I thought that, Xena aware of her crimes, the warrior princess as a heroine being her penance for her dark past, is what made the show great. And Gabrielle (& Joxer) were there as reminders, like calibration or guideposts for a compass, as she probably would have killed both without a second thought in the past (though Joxer fills more the jester spot, comic relief, the Orko, Quark, etc of the series). They seemed to lose sight of that. Initially, the story plot kind of distracted from that quest in Seasons 3-4, then Season 5 was a mess for multiple reasons (and different kinds of messes at different times). I was glad in the end, the finale, despite how maligned it is (actually very similar to Voyager "Endgame" in how hated/disappointed the fanbase is with it), that the finale had a very strong feel like Season 1-2 Xena, the atoning Xena.

And Callisto ("you made me") was the perfect villain, a literal specter from her past and a consequence of her actions, sort of blameless because she's psycho Barbie (the blame is split between Callisto & Xena). Of course, they killed off Callisto and didn't know what to do. Making her a god didn't do anything, having her go after Xena indirectly didn't do anything, so she became a Dahak lackey lackey and eventually exited stage left strumming a harp wearing cardboard wings. A powerful villain, but one who was only good in Seasons 1-2 and just kind of drifting in Seasons 3-4. The Xena series find of follows an X-Files arc (3 seasons up, 3 seasons peaking, 3 seasons down), only in terms of themes- penitent Xena undoing the misdeeds of her past, trying to be a hero (Seasons 1-2), Xena the hero not really introspecting, being caught up in stopping various villains, saving the world, yadda yadda (Seasons 3-4), then the adrift/wandering Xena, doing comic routines, on the run from King Herod stand-ins and playing godkiller (Season 5), and then kind of getting in adventures without much introspection or without major plots to stop, just the usual put down the local bad guy (Season 6).

And as I said, I've seen the best/worst 12 eps list from Whoosh. I actually visited Whoosh back in the day (day being the series' first-run). I liked the fantasy genre and sci-fi, and DS9, Hercules & Xena were all one giant block which made for entertaining Saturday afternoons, especially given the void left by the absence of classic badly dubbed Japanese monster movies or Japanese/Chinese karate/kung fu/ninja/samurai flicks or B-grade horror movies in the US from their Sat morning/afternoon slots. Hercules & Xena were the biggest thing for the fantasy genre in terms of weekly content. Before them were just some cartoons (Conan the Adventurer, Thundercats, He-Man & She-Ra) and the rare movie here and there. I was curious what people here thought.

And I see I miscounted, Season 5 has 6 of the 12 worst episodes. Purity, Back in the Bottle, Punch Lines, Lyre Lyre Hearts on Fire were the 4-cluster, but I forget about Overboard, ahem, Married with Fishsticks, and Lifeblood (Xena's answer to "11:59").

Glad you liked the Xexer fic:bolian: Count me in for a Buffy/Angel rewatch.

Personally my favourite season was 3 leading up to Gabby's 'death' in the lava, it's Callisto heavy and that's enough for me.

I think a series based on evil Xena would get a bit boring after a while, maybe one of good Xena vs Evil Xena?
