Any news of Alex K/River Song in Season 7?

Has anyone heard anything about Alex K returning as River Song next season? I'd heard there were issues with scheduling conflicts. I'm a massive fan of her character so I'm hoping that she'll still play a big role this season. Honestly, I'd be happiest if River were to be a regular part of the TARDIS team all season.

AFAIK there's no scheduling conflict as Upstairs, Downstairs finishes filming before Doctor Who begins. I'm not sure about this, but I that that they may even be using the same stage at the new Roath Lock studios for both productions so the Upstairs, Downstairs sets would have to be taken down before the Doctor Who sets could be put up.

According to a recent Radio Times, Alex was on the Graham Norton Show last week and when asked pointed out that DW and UD don't film at the same time and left it at that. The exchange was cut from the broadcast, however (likely for time rather than any conspiracy).

While I'd like to see more of River, there's only so much they can do with her considering the mini-episode "Last Night" already showed us their final meeting and we know she dies in Forest of the Dead. I'd imagine we'll see her at least in the Ponds' final episode, but after that I'm assuming the character will be retired.

I didn't like River in her first outing, but she's really grown on me. That said I'd agree, there isn't much more that can be done with the character once Amy and Rory left...although there's no reason she couldn't come back for the odd cameo ala Jack.

I still like River Song, but it was getting borderline ridiculous in S6, and building another season around River Song, when we know all we should about her would be too much, and we should branch out to the mysterious Silence faction that created her.

That scene was nice, but I can't help feel like it's Moffat's way of dealing with that "last meeting" issue without actually dealing with it. I'd say he clearly has no intention of doing any more with it than that, otherwise he wouldn't have done that clip. Which is rather disappointing.

It's only the excellence of Ms Kingston's acting that makes River Song tolerable anymore. She's gone from a deliciously mysterious character who was developed into a heartfelt tragic end in two episodes to a Mary Sue child of the Tardis, make a Dalek quake, no prison can shake. I've had about enough.

I've heard both River and Amy described as Mary Sue characters today.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Sue

Today "Mary Sue" carries a connotation of wish-fulfilment and is commonly associated with self-insertion (the writing of oneself into a fictional story). True self-insertion is a literal and generally undisguised representation of the author; most characters described as "Mary Sues" are not, though they are often called "proxies"[4] for the author. The negative connotation comes from this "wish-fulfilment" implication: the "Mary Sue" is judged a poorly developed character, too perfect and lacking in realism to be interesting. Such proxy characters, critics claim, exist only because authors wish to see themselves as the "special" character in question.

So does Moffatt see himself as a leggy gobby redheaded girl in her early 20s or as a buxom curly-haired woman in her 40s? Either way, they can't both be Mary Sues...

Even if we don't see her I suspect her final appearance will come when 11 dies as we know she pays her one final visit before she heads off to the library.

I think there's plenty still to do with the character. There's a whole new dynamic to explore now that the Doctor is married to River and knows it. Also, River has lots of time on her own, who knows what else she's gotten up to. I half way expect River could have had the Doctor's child at some point, whether that would work well or not is debatable.
Also, River is still alive in the virtual world, so someday the Doctor could visit her there, find a way to bring her back to the real world even.
I do think that we'll see the last of River on tv anyways when Moffat leaves, but with so many Who audios being done I wouldn't rule out River living on in audio spin offs someday too.

I wouldn't be surprised if we get a single episode with River, but she probably won't be a major focus of the season.

Don't get your hopes up if you don't like River; I know nothing official and I'm just guessing. I suspect that she would play a larger role in the anniversary year than Season 7.

true, I am just weary of her being the focus and being in so many recent episodes the last two seasons. I don't care if the Doctor married her, she is arrogant and presumptious and I just din't like the way she is played and has been written.

River is arrogant and presumptious, as is the Doctor. Given that they're both so much more brilliant and fabulous than the people they're generally interacting with, I don't find that all that surprising. I find River a fascinating character, and it would feel like a bit of a cheat if we didn't see at least a little more of her relationship with the Doctor after their marriage. River relates to the Doctor in a completely unique way than anyone else, and I find that intriguing to watch.
All that said, if River didn't return, I'd be really sad, but her story had had it's end, and the begining. I'm just want to see more of the middle.
And, yeah, I think that there should be a way to get River out of the VR world, although it's questionable if she'd want to since she has children there now.

Get rid of River, get rid of Amy and the guy who I can't remember the name of and regenerate the Doctor.

Can you tell I like the current era...?

I'm quite happy to see River again as a one off, not sure I'd like her to be around as much as she was in S6, and I'd hate it if they got her out of the VR world!

If River doesn't leave the VR world, then the Doctor needs to go to her, at least once. I think that would be the last bit of closure the story would need. The Doctor going to the VR world, having their moment, and River letting him go back to the universe that needs him, while she finds contentment as a mother in her own world.
I just feel something like that needs to be done, because her death looms over the whole story arc, when she's not really dead, just living in a different state.
