Any Comic Book Fans Here That Are Annoyed By Comic Movie Only Fans?

Re: Any Comic Book Fans Here That Are Annoyed By Comic Movie Only Fans

Well my attitude originates from the fact that the people such as myself that were into this stuff before it became mainstream took a lot of crap and ridicule from schoolmates, parents, friends, relatives ands anyone who may have saw me or others go into a comic shop, comic con or star trek convention. Now that its mainstream they all seem to have forgotten what assholes they were to the us. So yeah I am entitled to feel the way I do.

On the continuum of unfairness, pain and cruelty that are part of existence, the embarrassment of being mocked as a comics geek is not worth a sneeze. Enduring it entitles you to nothing.

It entitles me to mock pseudo fans that come to the comic cons and have no interest in the actual comics. Very enjoyable.
So being mocked entitles you to mock others?

Way to be the better person.:techman:

Big talk. I'd love to see it in action.

Mock the wrong "pseudo fan" and you'll carry some teeth home in your pocket.

Re: Any Comic Book Fans Here That Are Annoyed By Comic Movie Only Fans

A friend used drawing pins to stick up maybe 40 comics to his bed room wall by their Mylar baggies.

I saw this 3 years later.

The sun had bleached or baked off all the colours from all the covers of all those books.

It just looked like a wall of white bathroom tiles.

Uh...wow. So not impressed.

Because I enjoy the movies so much, I actually checked out a few in-MCU-verse tie-in comics from the library once, and what did I get? Ugly-ass art, faces that look nothing like the actors, and abrupt, pointless vignettes that in no way tell any kind of memorable story.

Am I being pranked?!

Now, one might think that sharing continuity with the movies might make said line of comics more accessible to fans of the movies only, so it'd behoove Marvel to make them quality products. Well, based on the evidence I thumbed through, Marvel either doesn't give a damn about said comics, or they're even worse at making them then I'd assumed. Regardless, the lesson was clear: don't bother with superhero comics; they're a waste of time. :vulcan:

When I am mocking them I only do in in my thoughts not out loud. Thats pretty impressive in my book.
No it's not.

Yeah it is. I mock in my head no one hears it but I still get some satisfaction and I don't hurt anyone feelings. Everyone wins. I do that all and still look for my comics. Yup im pretty impressive if I do say so myself.:mallory:

Re: Any Comic Book Fans Here That Are Annoyed By Comic Movie Only Fans

Ultimately, we all need to get past the "Us" versus "Them" mentality, which isn't helpful for anyone.

It's not just our private clubhouse.

That's probably the best summary of the conflagration here.

Pubert... please dial it back. You've the right to be annoyed if you wish, but it is just plain unnecessary to carry on like this. If you persist in this line, you will end up with an infraction.

Everyone.. you've blown off some steam, so now let's bring things back form the edge of trolling/flaming each other

Re: Any Comic Book Fans Here That Are Annoyed By Comic Movie Only Fans

Haha, they don't have the same ridiculously expensive and time consuming hobby that I do!

Here, comics are 7.50$ a pop. Since I collect every Thor and Xmen spinoff (plus whatever event may be happening), that adds up quickly. Because I'm a completist, I also tend to spend +50$ on the omnibuses of back issues, and I'll also pick up random series that are of interest to me (for eg, Alan Moores and Neil Gaimens stuff)

If you ask me, the movie-only fans are the smart ones.

Their product also
a) comes out on time
b) isn't 98% filler
and
c) is actually worth their money more than 50% of the time (*grumble*goddam Axis*grumble*.)

I'd be careful at flinging those stones - there's always someone who youre the pseudo- fan in comparison to.

EDIT: Sorry for the redundant post. I'm the slowest poster ever.

Well all joking aside(I don't mock anyone at the con) I have to say comic collecting is fun. I don't overdo the buying like some of my comic collecting colleagues but the hobby is a great way to pass the time. I collect specific issues and artists. I got a CGC 8.8 issue of Daredevil #16 which is the first time John Romita Sr. drew Spider-Man. If I can get it signed by Stan Lee it will be worth 10 times what I paid for it. I choose comics that are key or have artists I like.

Ah, the dilemma of being a "fan" vs. being a "collector."

Perhaps he should have kept them along with white cardstock backers in their mylar baggies in dry storage away from direct light, keeping them upright at all times and also making sure to keep acidity under control by regularly replacing the cardstock backers.... and never actually experience the joy of reading the comics. :(

My Dad went through a phase as "comic book collector" when I was a kid. I would prefer to actually read the things instead of keeping them pristine for fifty years and hoping that they gain some monetary value.

I have tons of "fan" comics. They are the ones I read a lot as a kid. They aren't in mint condition by far. Unfortunately many of the ones I read as a kid aren't worth much. If they make a movie of Darkhawk my #1 issue may finally go up in price instead of down. ;)

That's why I get them. Though I'd still be really annoyed if I accidentally managed to bleach them. I like to reread, and some of them haven't been released in trade.

Re: Any Comic Book Fans Here That Are Annoyed By Comic Movie Only Fans

The comic movie fans that have never read the comics or were never fans of the source material are really starting to get annoying to me anyway. Most of these people never heard of Stan Lee before the 2008 Iron Man movie. I cant even go to comic con these without these dopes walking around and only coming to the con to see their favorite actor. They aren't even there for the comics. Geez its so annoying these fair weather fans only like the material now that they are movies. These people are probably the same people that beat the crap out of kids who like comic books back in school. Any other comic book fans getting annoyed? Am I overreacting?

Fuck that noise. I'm not a fan because of some desire to feel elite and exclude people from "the club." I wouldn't have discovered half the comics I love if I hadn't started out as a fan of the movies for those characters first.

Re: Any Comic Book Fans Here That Are Annoyed By Comic Movie Only Fans

All I know is that a large majority of people are assholes. The larger the fandom gets with these pseudo fans the more assholes we get. Fandom was more fun when there were genuine fans in it. Now you go to a con and there are a lot of
pseudo fans that are running around being rude and nasty. Im right about this because I have seen how the cons have changed over the years.

There's no such thing as a pseudo fan - if you genuinely like something, you're a fan.

There's a-holes everywhere, it's not related to liking comics or not...

Okay, please tell me now that this whole thread has just been a wind-up.

Re: Any Comic Book Fans Here That Are Annoyed By Comic Movie Only Fans

I laugh at both comic book fans and comic movie fans equally

We true fans wear spandex everyday and only eat foods that rhyme with the word comic
