Any Chance of LotR Being on Blu-ray?

Everyone:

Heh. Just what the title line indicates. If so, it'd be an instant add to my library of movies ...

Hmmm, I thought it already was but that must have just been rumours. I remember Warner Brothers were going to release it on Blu-Ray and on HD-DVD but the HD-DVD would come later as New Line weren't happy with the lack of region protection on HD-DVDs.

Warner Brothers has gone exclusively to Blu-ray, and given that New Line no longer operates semi-independently of the studio but rather as a minor branch, I fully expect to see the trilogy on Blu-ray Disc at some point in the future.

I've already go the Director's edition box set on DVD, but I'd definitely buy a HD theatrical cut of the series. Sometimes you don't feel like spending an entire afternoon watching a movie. ;)

There is a 100% chance that it will be released on blu-ray. The only question is when.

Darn, I came in here to post the exact same thing but was beaten to the punch. :techman:

I'm waiting for the BTTF and original Indy trilogy myself--both of those will be release day purchases for me unless something goes drastically wrong (like guns digitally replaced with walkie-talkies).

From what I've read online, they're already working on the Blu-ray editions of all three films. So it's quite possible they'll be out in 2009. What worries me though, is the rumours that at first they'll only release the theatrical cuts.

^Why does that worry you? It makes sense to transfer the theatrical release footage first, then worry about the extended scenes for a later release people will be salivating over. I doubt you'll have to wait for long.

^ Worry might not be the right word. Annoy is more like it. ;) I just don't want to purchase the TEs first and then have to re-buy the EEs. OTOH I really can't wait to watch the whole trilogy in HD. I'll probably just download the TEs and then buy EEs on release day.
