Anton Yelchin has died

SPOILERS for the most recent Fast and Furious Movie:

At the end of the last movie there's this amazing tribute to Paul Walker. I know the series has a reputation for being just a bunch of dumb action flicks, but the movie was fantastic, really, and they managed to be very respectful to their fallen co-star.

Justin Lin directed both that movie and Star Trek Beyond. I hope it's not too late (Beyond comes out in one month) for them to maybe put in a tribute to Anton. Like a scene at the end where they promote Chekov to his own command (they teased it in Into Darkness, so it would be fitting).
James Wan directed F7 (Lin directed F3-6) .. but yeah maybe they could do something similar with chekov in STB (beyond a 'for anton' credit) but probably no time now

^ Thanks for posting that video, @Philip Guyott! What a nice retrospective of his work. Sucks that nothing from “Green Room” could be included. He totally stole the show in that one.

Also, Anton seems to have worked with some of the most beautiful women in the industry right now: Olivia Thirlby, Imogen Poots, Kat Dennings, Kristen Stewart. He was a lucky man in that regard.

From the premiere of 'Green Room':

I was just listening to some Broken Bells music on YT and just remembered Anton appeared in the music video for "Holding on for life", so I thought I might share it here. He and Kate Mara look really cute together and I like how he could convey a lot of stuff going on with very little.

I can see both points of view.
From JJs perspective the current crew is his crew and the actors are his "Star Trek family".
Of course he doesn't want to replace one of them. The new guy would feel out of place and it could all be very awkward.

That said, JJ proved that Trek characters can be recast if necessary.
So we might see Chekov again at some point. Maybe even in a JJ Trek movie. Though getting Walter to play old Chekov in a future coda scene at some point where he reunites with his old crew would be nice.

In the meantime I would be happy to learn that he is just away taking a position as first officer on the Reliant.
