News ANOVOS Star Trek: Discovery Starfleet Phaser Pistol

$500 is a lot, but i almost, almost bit the bullet (or phased energy), until i reminded myself to stop banging my head against the same wall: every time i've pre-ordered from ANOVOS, delivery has taken months longer than they projected. it was fine when they were new, but their issues seem to have only worsened in recent years and unfortunately it has started to feel like a scam.

Anovos are hit and miss when it comes to value for money. Some of their stuff is extraordinary. I have one of their monster maroon jackets (didn't pay full price, got it off an eBay second hand seller, and even then it was still not a purchase one draws one's wife's attention to) and it is a thing of beauty. An exact, material matched, replica of the screen used costume. The r&d, and attention to detail is unparalleled. You can really see where the price came from. I've seen their ENT jumpsuits up close and I'd say the same about them. Yet some of their stuff... Not so much. The 'standard' line TNG uniforms are the better part of £400 and yet are thin pyjama material less robust than the Rubies one I had in the 90s. Same seems to be true of their other 'standard line' offerings. They don't seem to be able to tell the difference between "just better than costume shop" and "screen accurate high end replica" when it comes to prices, they just make everything expensive. $500 for a phaser is madness, given how good the diamond select replicas are for a fifth of the price even in collectors markets.

McFarlane had me sold at Star Trek Las Vegas when they announced their $40 phaser would be 1:1 scale and screen accurate from scans of the original source prop. I'm still sold on that.

More power to those who can drop $500 for the ANOVOS version though.

So, is the McFarlane version confirmed, then?

I would love to have one of these, but not for this price.

They must be popular, though. Folks on The RPF are saying both rounds of preorders are sold out.

A bit dubious myself about the value. That doesn't seem like much in the way of electronics, which is generally the more expensive part. I've got a Vader's Vault saber in that price range and not only does it have a detailed and anodized metal hilt but the electronics do everything but cut things in half. A few small LEDs isn't much by comparison.

A lightsaber combat prop for that price....sure. A phaser that can't do much....naw. If it could at least stun someone.....

Has anyone seen the phaser being sold by ANOVOS yet? Has a hefty $500 price tag to it! They are making them in waves of 50. Anyone interested in buying one or do you think the price tag is a little steep? Me myself I'm a collector and I jumped on board. I bought a Mark IX Science Tricorder a few years back signed by Brent Spiner and stupid me sold it and not its worth over $2k!
