Animated Series Coming to Blu-ray.

Honestly I'm not sure that the blu-ray quality will make much difference; it's a cartoon lacking any of the subtle shading and intricate details that Blu-ray is great for. In any case, I am always for getting Trek material in the best possible quality. I will be interested to see how it compares.

The DVD's look better than the old VHS tapes.

I have the laserdisc box set of TAS, and the DVD set left the LD quality in the dust, so one should expect yet another quality boost on Blu Ray. So--obviously--I will purchase the Blu Rays.

Will the Blu-Ray look better than VHS being a low res animation?

What's low-res about it? The animation work was done on film. There's definitely a noticeable difference in picture quality between "More Tribbles, More Troubles" in HD, included with the TOS Season 2 blu rays, and standard resolution on DVD.

I find that classic cartoons look stellar on blu ray. Looney Tunes is another example.

I don't know? On my 50 meg connection, it definitely looks closer to DVD than Blu-ray.

When I watch HD content on Netflix, the resolution is definitely higher than a DVD. But there are issues with color, banding, etc. from the compression.

Really can't see the point. Uprezzed DVD on animated stuff is good, especially when it's something as basic and lacking in detail as TAS.

I've got it on DVD, I've got the other Blurays, no doubt I'll get this, but not until it's around £10 or so...

I generally can't stand the look of up-res DVD, even with animation. Maybe I don't have the best hardware, though.

I've been saying this for years, and this is the last chance for it to happen -
You want a new adventure with ALL the stars of TOS and written by DC Fontana and not only provides a glimpse into unexplored Trek lore but doesn't violate continuity??

Then animate the soundtrack to the unreleased video game The Secret of Vulcan Fury!

Half the work is already done and in the can. It would be a HUGE selling point.

Do it CBS! DO IT NOW!

Does anyone even know where those assets are at?

CBS is putting out the animated series on Blu-Ray because there are pre-existing HD masters -- in other words, because it is cheap and easy.

For the same reason, this kind of bonus feature will never happen.

This is exactly what I was wondering.

Since Hal Sutherland was colorblind, there were a LOT of color mistakes on the show (such as the Kzinti in "The Slaver Weapon" turning up in pink uniforms - HS thought they were grey). I doubt the resources would be available to fix all of them.

Might be a nice christmas gift. I've been thinking about purchasing it on DVD but Ill wait and see it on Blu Ray. I hope they provide nice special features.

Secret of Vulcan Fury as well as Judgement Rites and 25th Anniversary Edition would all be perfect for new Animated episodes. I think they would have enough episodes to make
it as a separate season after TAS. Think about TAS gets new animation, original series music brought back, new guest actors to play the guest starring roles. Possibly Shatner and company coming back to add new dialogue etc That would be the 4th season and the computer games would be the 5th season.
