Animated Series Coming to Blu-ray.

I would like to see direct-to-video, feature-length Trek animated movies along the lines of the DCAU stuff, with high-quality contemporary animation. If they could do something like that with "Vulcan Fury," I'd buy it on day one.

There isn't just Secret of Vulcan Fury (now the holy grail of Trek) there's also audio from the 25th Anniversary and Judgement Rites games featuring the full original Cast, Trelane, Klingons and Harry Mudd! A fan called Robert England is animating them:

It would be interesting to see one of the episodes reanimated to see what could be done, but we'll never see the entire series treated as such. The cost and effort involved would be prohibitive.

The cost of a single episode would probably be prohibitive based on the number of units TAS is likely to sell.

I love the idea, but it would be great to see animation in the TAS style. You couldn't probably reuse a lot of stock footage from TAS, albeit adding the likes of Chekov and some new characters. But knowing CBS, the fan efforts will be the best we can get.

The audio is all there, new adventures with the classic crew - yes they sound older, they were recorded in the early 90s but thy're back together on the Enterprise in full cast adventures - to be honest on blu-ray I'd rather have thenm in a newer style than TAS but TAS seems cheaper to make.

The audio's there, RIGHT THERE for well over a dozen new episodes with the original cast - all you have to do is get the rights sorted. You could say the same for other videogames with the TNG (A Final Unity)/DS9 (Harbinger/The Fallen - though Sisko had another actor wierdly)/VOY (Elite Force) casts...

I got the dvd set at Christmas...upscale and run on modern TV with a bump up to 60hz display, it's better than some of the animation doing the rounds today.

And I say that in full knowledge that originally it was cheap awful animation that I would probably scream like shatner at the pain of watching.

Now if only there was a way to make all the guest characters stop sounding like scotty and Uhura. (let's be honest...Doohan was good, but not man of a million voices good. And poor nichelle Nichols.)

Very true. I was on the computer the other day, listening to TAS in the background and most of the voices sounded like Scott and Uhura.

Can you imagine the poor buggers in the sound booth? Literally talking to themselves in different voices.
I grant you I am trapped doing the same most nights, but it's my parental duty to tell stories and do the voices. (at which juncture, I offer my talents to any animated star trek production, since I am now at least as good as James Doohan. Especially if your guest cast are clumsy witches that sound a bit like Ade Edmonson being vaguely Australian.)

Still, it could have been worse. I can't imagine shatner as a multirole voice actor.

Since Hal Sutherland was colorblind, there were a LOT of color mistakes on the show (such as the Kzinti in "The Slaver Weapon" turning up in pink uniforms - HS thought they were grey). I doubt the resources would be available to fix all of them.
As I understood it, the issue in question in "The Time Trap" was something that was changed for the DVD release. Originally, the background in the pocket universe was red. That was tweaked for the DVD release to be black in most places, with (no pun intended) less than stellar results. It should not have been tweaked like that in the first place.

This isn't about Sutherland's colorblindness.

Since others are posting fan TAS, here's mine.

The infinite Vulcan - ST TAS

What I was surprised on this episode was two things: 1) the plant guy chose Spock... a Vegetarian... and 2) The guy wants a "master race" as a benevolent peace keeping squad....

What I liked was:

Plant people and More Trek in less than 30 minutes so as to fit in to a schedule.

I think "The Infinite Vulcan" is a cool episode. The 50 ft. Spock clone is a bit jarring, though. Then sgain Keniclius' clone as well as the Phylosian ancestors were also oversized so Spock's oversized clone isn't totally out of left field.

If only they had been somewhat more realistically oversized, like 10-15 ft. at most.

I never had a problem with "The Infinite Vulcan". Fun 24 minutes of Trek.

Yeah, for what it is I'm fine with the current DVD set I have.
Same here. It wasn't a good-looking enough show for higher res to make a real difference, and I doubt they'll bother doing any new extras.

And I barely watch the set I have now, so...

Well, I'll be buying this set. A few years ago I loaned my DVDs to some friends who now swear they returned it to me, even though I don't have it, so I'd been figuring to replace my DVDs. The Blu-Rays will make a nice consolation.

Turning any of those games (I've played almost all of them) into an episode of television would be very difficult without recording a lot of new dialogue. This is pure fantasy.

Hopefully, CBS is willing to pony up for a few more audio commentaries with the writers of TAS who are still alive, although I expect no new bonus features.

the reason why it looked bad:

Totally. The likenesses weren't bad. But it was cheap animation.
Coming from decades of anime watching, I find it fun to imagine a souped up version. Even today there's a world of difference between say...God eater and My Love Story, though both have thier charm.
Reactivate this series in the style of God eater though.....
