Animated Series Coming to Blu-ray.

Does anyone even know where those assets are at?
I have read in the comments section of that Youtube Star Trek new animated episode called Beyond Antares where the fan who has created this episode claims that he has an early version of Secret of Vulcan Fury. I would hope that is true. I would hope that CBS would have a talk with him and see exactly what he does have in audio with the original cast.

It's neat if they still exist. But I seriously doubt they would do anything with them. The interest in TAS on Blu-ray is going to be limited and I seriously doubt we'll get any expensive special features. We may just end up with the DVD special features ported over.

Since Hal Sutherland was colorblind, there were a LOT of color mistakes on the show (such as the Kzinti in "The Slaver Weapon" turning up in pink uniforms - HS thought they were grey). I doubt the resources would be available to fix all of them.

I don't think anyone is asking them to change the original colours... just to restore the changes made for the DVD set back to look like the original broadcast versions.

Considering the tech today wouldn't it possible to synthesize or modulate someone's voice to sound like someone else?

We're talking about an electronic or computerized way to mimic someone's voice the way voice imitators such as Rich Little used to do. The actor would then only have to approximate the original actor's speech patterns and the synthesizer/modulator would do the rest.

If possible then you could make new TAS episodes and recreate the voices of the original cast to at least a reasonable degree.

What if they presented it as more of a rough storyboard presentation, with some crude, quick and dirty Flash animation? It probably wouldn't take too much effort to splice together the existing audio into a coherent story and whip up some visuals to go with it. I've seen similar things as extras on DVDs before.

Just an idea... I know it's not going to happen. And probably nobody would be happy with it, anyway.

You may be right but I look at it this way. CBS hopefully is looking at the comments section of Star Trek sites like this. What they have been reading is, great I love TAS, or this is not great I want DS9. The assumption I am making about this is that people are assuming this release is basically a rehash of the DVD release of 2006. Of course people are not going to be excited by that. What if though, CBS does pull out all of the stops and reanimates TAS and possibly gives us newly animated versions of the Computer Games. That ups the excitement level big time in my opinion. My main hope is that These animated episodes all get remade as new live action Star Trek. Keep the audio from the original cast and create Year 4 and 5 of The Original Star Trek. That would definitely up the interest in this project. That would be a perfect home for CBS All Access.

I have heard that they can do things like that. I do not mind them doing it if they do it discretely. I mainly would want them to use voice doubles to add new dialogue to existing episodes to make them an hour long. It is still a very interesting idea that I am open to.

Here is an full, unseen, 30 minute fan made TAS episode called Return To Triskelion.

I would like to see direct-to-video, feature-length Trek animated movies along the lines of the DCAU stuff, with high-quality contemporary animation. If they could do something like that with "Vulcan Fury," I'd buy it on day one.

That was awesome! Shame that Arex and Chekov got mixed up and Uhura's dialogue, which was rather pointless, was a bit distorted. I'd love to see more stories like this, especially ones with versions of the missing characters like Chekov and Rand or some of the groovier guest stars and some new characters. Great fun.

There's no analysis concluding the target audience would be interested in a "reanimated" TAS. One of the reasons film and TV fanbases exist is their appreciation and/or love for the original production, not "reanimating," "reimagining" or "special editions" which have drawn more criticism than praise over the years. TAS was successful in its original run, and played a significant role in keeping ST alive for existing ST fans long before the movies, while introducing a new generation of children to ST.

It was that series as a whole--the actors, the stories, the new designs and the animation--that captured the interest and (from board discussions such as this, and tribute cartoons / comics over four decades later) keeps the series as a vital part of ST's franchise. It did not "reaniamtion" to achieve that, and few were ever asking for it, either.

They will not reanimate it. That would be a long and very expensive exercise that I cannot see CBS ever doing.
I don't see it happening either. I'm just saying if they did I would buy it. I won't buy a high resolution version of what is basically primitive animation.

Thank you for saying what I've been wanting to say since the news broke. There is just no way I'd spend BR prices for TAS without some major retooling done first. Till then the DVD versions will suit me just fine.

I can't stand the digital artifacts when I watch the TAS DVDs upscaled on an HD TV. So I will be getting the blu rays.

Same here. I hate digital compression. It looks like ass.

It would be interesting to see one of the episodes reanimated to see what could be done, but we'll never see the entire series treated as such. The cost and effort involved would be prohibitive.
