And the Next Cancelled Show is...

IIRC, filming of network dramas starts in July these days, and I think it still ends in March, maybe early April.
Yeah, probably because a) there are fewer episodes per season (20-22) and because the episodes are shorter to accommodate more ad breaks (40 minutes as opposed to 50 back in the day).

Due to the length of the ongoing strike, Amazon changes their mind and cancels The Peripheral.

Article says there's another show Amazon renewed for season 2 that they're thinking about cutting too. What do you think that one is? Citadel? The Terminal List? They've spent too much money on Lord of the Rings to abandon that now.

I doubt we’ll see more Carnival Row. Way too much time passed between the two seasons.

And the strike should kill off a lot of shows. It did during the last two.

I’d expect more back catalogue stuff like Suits to hit to fill the gap this time. Way more people stream. Lots of content available. Far more than during the last two strikes.

They can cancel the current LOTRTV, then create something completely different, but still essentially more LOTHTV, in 5 years, and still call it season 2.

I think more than a few MCU shows will be cut. Which would likely be for the better. The MCU is struggling. They waited to long to bring in the X-Men and Fantastic Four and they could really use them now to create new interest in the brand.

I’m good to avoid MCU and Star Wars right now. I’m also burnt out on fantasy. Give me some more horror and westerns.

Seeing this makes me worried Silo will get the Axe eventually. I hope not, but only being a season and Rebecca Furguson is a movie star (Mission Impossible), I feel like it's becoming increasingly likely.

Abbi Jacobson calls out Amazon's bullshit regarding A League of Their Own's cancelation:

What luck I have had to get to tell these stories and play this character I love so much. What a rare thing in life. And so I am sad today.

To blame this cancellation on the strike, (which is an essential fight for fair wages, protections and working conditions, etc…) is bullshit and cowardly. But this post isn’t about all that. About all the ways this show has been put through the ringer. Not today.

This post here is about the special show I was lucky to make with so many incredibly talented artists and actors and writers and crew. A show I’m so proud of. Filled to the brim with stories worth telling. Full of so much heart and soul and value.

Thank you for watching.

To the five. ❤️

Looks like it got renewed.

Lots of stuff got canceled overall.

Nope.

Looks like Lockwood & Co also got canceled. I really liked that show.

Nope as in you agree with me, or nope as in I'm wrong. Prodigy was renewed before it was cancelled. League of their Own was renewed before it was cancelled. The Periphial was renewed and because of the strikes has now been cancelled. I say what I said is true based on those examples.

Disney+ has canceled the Doogie Howser reboot after two seasons. Which is surprising because I didn't even know there was a first season.

At this point, until it shows up onscreen, I wouldn't trust the renewals. The executives are looking at even the smallest excuse to cancel shows, remove them from services and trim their budgets.
