I really liked the show. I don't know what happened. It was a great follow up to the film. I didn't know that Disney has completely made it impossible to watch.... 😢 ...it had great reviews from critics but fans balked on it. I don't get it. It totally respected the film it was a natural extension. It got everything right as far as I'm concerned. It was nice to see Warwick having his own show. Anyone else pissed it was cancelled.

There's a full thread about this show, its subsequent cancellation, and its swift removal from streaming over here.

And yes, many people including myself are pissed about this.

Oh , ok thanks. I didn't know there was a thread. I was thinking about the show today and it still burns me they cancelled it. But I didn't know they removed it from streaming until today. I was hoping to rewatch the film and show all over again. It was such a high quality show.

same here

i still can not believe that willow got axed aka deleted

i might rewatch season 1 later lol

Probably Bavmorda's doing. (And it's been so long since I saw the movie, that I had to look it up to refamiliarize myself.)

Yeah, I don't get why they seem to have completely erased the show from existence. There are plenty of other shows that didn't do great and have been cancelled, but are at least still on streaming services and released on DVD/Blu-Ray.

Axed is not deleted, axed just means cancelled, and being cancelled doesn't usually mean it's going to be deleted.

I was hoping for a boxed set of the movie and show. But Disney seems intent on Burying the show. Shame on them.

I'm honestly surprised Kathleen Kennedy doesn't get more flak from this absolutely shameful course of action on Disney/Lucasfilm's part. Even if it was decided above her level - and that's an if, because I've seen zero credible reporting on it either way - she could and should have called for it to at least be available for digital purpose, and that's arguably even more true now that she's moved on from the job. Even apart from preventing the stakeholders in question from earning residuals, for it to not be available to serve as professional calling cards is completely unacceptable.

As far as I'm concerned, until Disney makes it available for legitimate streaming or digital purpose, anyone with an interest in the series (which, in this case, doesn't include myself) has every right to acquire it through... other means. :censored:

Yeah. Disney does some strange stuff. Johnny Depp for example. They distanced themselves from him because of the issues he had with his wife. Without even knowing the facts they went with the rumors and fired Johnny. Not a good business decision on their part.

A lot of older franchises that have seen a resurgence don't always get it right. This show was done right. I just don't get it. Same with Tron. The second film was great ,(haven't seen the third yet) but many fans balked on it for some reason.

But burying it makes ZERO sense.

Maybe the "Electronic World" scenes that look like they could have been done live on stage (and/or that dropped into Uncanny Canyon), instead of like they could only have been achieved through backlit animation and/or CGI?

Wendy's iconic score barely quoted once, in Jeff Bridges' voice, in a "blink and you'll miss it" moment in the prologue scene? (like it wasn't bad enough that back in 1982, they cut most of her end-title cue in the original, to splice in a rock song of questionable merit?). I doubt she was even approached.

But back to Willow, I think the TV series was probably gone before I was even aware of its existence. And maybe the reason for its demise was nothing more than Kitman's Law ("Pure drivel tends to drive from the television screen ordinary drivel").

It's probably because, like me, they didn't think it was great. Whether a work is great is—wait for it—a matter of opinion.

Regarding Willow specifically, AFAIK the reasons behind why it was removed from the platform aren't known, beyond a vague rationale of cutting costs, so I can't comment on whether they make sense. Although I didn't like the show, I don't expect there'd be any reason why I'd want it removed, maybe unless there's a legitimate reason why keeping it on would (more than marginally) increase the cost of my subscriptions.

No. There are plenty of bad shows that are still available for viewing, and Willow wasn't a bad show. The removal of Willow was one of those things like the cancellations of Batgirl and Coyote vs. Acme, something done purely as a cost-cutting move by studio owners who couldn't care less about the quality or popularity of their shows and movies but see them merely as pieces of property. It's just one more symptom of how corporations today are run by people who have no interest in serving their customers or employees but make decisions purely on the basis of what will make themselves and their stockholders richer.

Exactly the point. Kitman's Law is a colorful way of saying that bad tends to drive out good, and worse tends to drive out bad. Think about TOS barely lasting three seasons, even though it was one of the best shows on television at the time. Think about Survivor lasting year after year.

And a brief return the second Tron movie, how could it have slipped my mind that Cindy Morgan wasn't even approached to bring back Lora Baines or her alter-ego, Yori? That, too, was a reason I found it unsatisfying.

My point is that it had nothing whatsoever to do with good or bad, since it was exclusively a monetary decision. The people who made the decision to erase the Willow series neither knew nor cared whether one show was better than another. It was just numbers in a ledger to them. Quality is an entirely unrelated conversation.

"Today" as opposed to when? When have corporations ever operated otherwise? I'm looking for a specific period of history you can name, to support the implication here that there has been a shift in corporate behavior, generally speaking.

That's far too different a case to be of any use bringing up in this context, if only because there are credible reports that he was consistently behaving unprofessionally on set. Enough said. :vulcan:

Having heard his performance on the Court TV videos, I'm not surprised they did.

One thing that seems strange to me with modern corporations' behavior, is that they're happily screw over their customers if they think it might get their shareholders a few more dollars. It seemed like when I was younger corporations would put a little more effort into customer satisfaction, but now they don't even seem to understand that the best way to bring in more money, is by keeping the customers you have and drawing in new customers.
