Spoilers An overview of Season 2 set changes

I know we're talking about film sets, not actual deck planning, but I think regarding rooms/corridors surrounding the bridge, it's worth mentioning what the CG model exterior implies to be there. The port side ready room obviously has the large window, and the starboard side has an identical window, though how both the HAL alcove and a windowed room can exist in the same space is beyond me.

The forward doors are tricky, as stated. I'm 95% sure the forward starboard door is a turbolift, as there was an episode where Michael and Tyler were late to duty, and can be seen exiting that door after traveling to the bridge via lift. The exterior of the bridge module shows twin windows in those areas, implying there are rooms flanking the front sides of the bridge.

So from episode one, there is a corridor or something in the HAL alcove, saw at least one person walking back there.

Thanks, @Noah_23! This is the kind of stuff I love. I’m guessing that episode 202 will give us a look at the revamped Pike ready room and another room we see with Tyler, Burnham, and Pike discussing what Section 31 thinks of the angel. They need a conference room for meetings! The photos with the bronze colored walls tell me that it’s on deck 1. That’s my guess. I hope the keep fleshing out the whole deck for us starship nerds!!

the near mythical starfleet bathroom?

One day I'd like to see a bathroom in Star Trek. DIS being "rated R" would be the perfect place to be honest!

I mean, they showed as Klingons have double-dicks. Showing a simple toilet can't be more contriversial, right?

Looking at this and trying to make sense of it.

They've got a crew count of roughly 140, and multiple mess halls. But I've been getting the sense that the ship's meant for a larger crew count than it's been given anyway...
In "Brother" we get a glimpse of the between-decks spaces of Discovery, it's like a massive factory (or... brewery) with crisscrossing turbolift rails. We see it again through the "roof" window of a corridor with work bees flying around between decks. There is a LOT of uninhabitable space.

The height of the ready room windows really only worked with Lorca's standing desk; I wonder if they'll be lowered - or even expanded - once (if?) Pike gets a more traditional table and chairs setup.

They actually only showed double streams, not double dicks.

I said much earlier in this thread we need a schematic of deck 1, including the bathrooms.

This is one ther things that worries me. As much as I enjoyed this episode, showing parts of the ship that couldn’t make sense in-universe is a problem. I also felt this way about the space pod launch sequeance. Could they actually be so elaborate if they really existed?

The "turbolift factory" is implied to be entirely within the neck, since they clearly show us that the transporter Pike uses is the bottom-most deck of the neck. They don't change decks while walking through the skylight corridor on the way to the lift so I think that's what the show is telling us. The obvious problem is that it doesn't fit, makes all the neck windows useless, and makes zero sense. The only place it kind of seems like it would work is the lower hull box, but that would mean they had to travel down 8 decks and then BACK up through the lift. And even then i dont know that it would fit in there. I'm really curious we get a behind the scenes look at the CG effects this season where they explain the idea behind that. Or maybe an explanation later in the season. At this point I'm at a loss for what the intent was.

The previous talk of a deck one sketch reminded me that I did this a couple months ago when the behind the scenes of season 2 were coming out. Forgive the roughness of the sketch, as it was by hand and I didn't use any exact measurements, only eyeballing rough sizes of rooms. But you can see what I was going for.

The bridge is more or less centered, though slightly offset to the front. The front left door leads to a little bridge crew break room, the front right door leads to a turbo. The ready room has a little private office/briefing room (accessed via the door we see in the show) and the HAL alcove leads to a side corridor that leads to the aft neck area of deck one, but also loops forward to another observation lounge, with a bathroom nestled between the front bridge turbolift and the hull. Hopefully my description makes sense and makes the drawing more clear :D
EDIT: The side corridor has a window that mirrors the ready room window. Forgot to mention that.

That was a surprise. Granted that a starship's got a lot of moving and non-moving parts that we usually never see...

Hmm sorry about that. In my experience, bbs has always been finicky about linked pictures. Do you mean the post where I was talking about the sketch I did?

Regarding the walk to the transporter room, I'm pretty sure we're missing significant chunks of it. After all, right after the introductory "walking along the outer wall of the neck" bit, Saru and Burnham make a tight right turn that ought to take them right into space! So there's missing time and dialogue before Saru feels obligated to bring up Burnham's glands, and no telling how many turns and deck changes they made - save for them absolutely having had to do at least one of the latter.

I'd argue Lorca had the mission of finding weird science ways of winning the war, anything goes - and when spore drive panned out, the other scientists and their failed schemes got the boot. At which point Lorca could also drop the compartmentalization and send the S31 guards packing.

The crew count of 134 (excluding Saru and perhaps Lorca) comes at a time when the tardigrade has not yet been properly cleared for navigation and the drive is theoretically incomplete, in "Choose Your Pain". It might still come after those studying metagenic weapons and Things That Flatten Klingon Foreheads and Add Hair were shown the airlock, with further departures following the end of the research phase and the adoption of operational mode.

Timo Saloniemi

This makes sense. Although, I'd imagine the shift into operational use if the spore drive would require an increase in some departments (engineering to handle damage and wear from battle, weapons handlers, and security in case of boarding, for example).
