Spoilers An overview of Season 2 set changes

This is one ther things that worries me. As much as I enjoyed this episode, showing parts of the ship that couldn’t make sense in-universe is a problem. I also felt this way about the space pod launch sequeance. Could they actually be so elaborate if they really existed?

The "turbolift factory" is implied to be entirely within the neck, since they clearly show us that the transporter Pike uses is the bottom-most deck of the neck. They don't change decks while walking through the skylight corridor on the way to the lift so I think that's what the show is telling us. The obvious problem is that it doesn't fit, makes all the neck windows useless, and makes zero sense. The only place it kind of seems like it would work is the lower hull box, but that would mean they had to travel down 8 decks and then BACK up through the lift. And even then i dont know that it would fit in there. I'm really curious we get a behind the scenes look at the CG effects this season where they explain the idea behind that. Or maybe an explanation later in the season. At this point I'm at a loss for what the intent was.

Yeah, this single short part was really, really dumb, and has a lot of stupid ramifications...
(god I hope they just ignore that and never, ever show again)

Love this:
if you pause it just right..

This is great! A great start. I'm guessing that we will see a revised ready room in the next episode. I really wish they expand all of deck one and give us a look in a bathroom and lounge/break room; a conference room... have a top classified visit to the ship using one of those airlocks! This is the techy stuff that Trek fans really love, because they help us piece together in our imaginations, and then in schematics, what the whole ship might look like.

I know we're talking about film sets, not actual deck planning, but I think regarding rooms/corridors surrounding the bridge, it's worth mentioning what the CG model exterior implies to be there. The port side ready room obviously has the large window, and the starboard side has an identical window, though how both the HAL alcove and a windowed room can exist in the same space is beyond me.

The forward doors are tricky, as stated. I'm 95% sure the forward starboard door is a turbolift, as there was an episode where Michael and Tyler were late to duty, and can be seen exiting that door after traveling to the bridge via lift. The exterior of the bridge module shows twin windows in those areas, implying there are rooms flanking the front sides of the bridge.

@Noah_23 I have not been able to find a shot of the outside of the back of deck one. Besides that exterior of the ready room window, I can't find anything that shows all or most of the rear of the bridge module. Have you has any success with that?

The most interesting thing to me about the turbolift interior is that the cab appears to be traveling on its side and changing orientation. What's going on in there? Artificial gravity specific to the cab itself?

I honestly think they just failed on the "turbo lift coaster." It was too much. They could have done something that adhered to the internal logic of the show, i.e. the size of the ship, the basic fact that space inside a starship is at a premium. But they place "cool factor" above that and distracted us from what could be a believable suspension of disbelief.

In the season 2 opener, I did notice some people walking through the 'Hal' alcove, there are doors back there now like was mentioned in the articles in this thread. Maybe it is that hallway back there.

yeah I put that corridor there purposefully because of those people :)

Hmm not 100% certain of what you mean, but I found some shots like this one from Calypso. Is that the kind of thing you mean?

Oh and I haven't seen this shared in this thread yet, but it's possible I've missed it. Apologies if that's the case. Here's a plan of the season one set layout I found.

@Noah_23, you're awesome! Both of these things are what we need. Exactly what I was looking for: how to establish the placement of the ready room bridge. And then lets hope they are consistent when they show that scene with Tyler, Burnham, and Pike in a meeting. I hope that added and not just changed the ready room.

If this shot in the trailer ends up being in Pike's updated ready room, it's worth noting I'm 98% sure this is a redress of Georgiou's Shenzhou ready room. I think the wall's have been rebuilt to be more smooth and match Discovery's styling, but the shape of the room seems identical and obviously they have the set already, so of course they'd use it since they don't need the Shenzhou assets anymore.

The most interesting thing to me about the turbolift interior is that the cab appears to be traveling on its side and changing orientation. What's going on in there? Artificial gravity specific to the cab itself?

This much is more or less a given anyway: without cab-specific manipulation of inertia/gravity, the occupants could not survive the rides, which involve extremely sharp turns according to every turboshaft map ever seen. (Plus there's apparent gravity in the turbocab they use as a lifepod in ST Beyond, FWIW.)

That the cabs would move on curving rails rather than somehow free-fly inside tubes is the new bit here. Might be this is "older tech". Might be this is what you have inside a former shuttlecarrier that has been haphazardly fitted with esoteric science experiments (canonically including a mushroom conservatory and a two-deck meditation chamber, but there must be wilder things there, too) that don't conform to any deck grid. Might be the innards are supposed to be dynamic, and these rails constantly change shape like Hogwarts staircases, something harder to do with "traditional" tubes.

In "The Wolf Inside" Burnham shuts off the artificial gravity in order to gain advantage over Mirror Captain Connor. Since when they arrive on the bridge, no one look particulary disoriented, it would appear that the gravity is specific to the lift.

@Noah_23, there's a logic to what you are saying but here are my concerns:
1. If that were the case you would not be able to enter the ready room from the bridge, which might make a redress more work then its worth. I imagine it would be easier to just add this room to the existing bridge set. Structurally, that bridge, imagined to be on the bottom of the ship, is soooo different from Discovery. Like those windows are very angled. And those angles would have no place on deck one.

2. Somewhere else someone speculated that the Section 31 Bridge/Lab was a reuse of the Shenzhou set, which makes sense since it's also two-story.

They can disassemble the read room set and move it over to the Discovery Stage, and then change the windows.

Yeah that's what I was envisioning they'd do, I think they would just move the Shen ready room over to the Disco bridge, and simply match up the doors pretty much haha. But @Styleset is right, at that point it may be easier to just build a new room. We'll have to see!
And that new 2 story Section 31 room is definitely the old Shen bridge, no question about it. With the bridge being on the bottom, they had to build it on scaffolding above the stage floor. So for this new room, they just removed the Shen bridge floor and added a "basement" room underneath if that makes sense. All the bridge details can still be easily seen on the upper level. A lab with two floors was briefly mentioned in the most recent ep, and I immediately thought of this.

I am guessing that conference room is on the starboard side and accessible via HAL. If it's port side, it's the current ready room, they have hypothetically changed the door and moved both interior walls. Pike does say, "I need a new ready room." and not "I need new furniture in my ready room." We'll see!

I am pretty sure its deck one. Given the color and how round the room it's connected to bridge.

If you remember in "The War Without, the War Within," the conference room scene with Cornwall, Sarek, Saru, Stamets and Burnham, is a straight up reuse of the starbase scene. They were definitely pinching pennies. It's implied that they are on Discovery, but they could be on the ship that brought Cornwall and Sarek. Yet the aesthetic doesn't exactly match anything else we have seen on the Discovery.

Those copper walls have so far only been seen on deck one of the Discovery.
