Spoilers An overview of Season 2 set changes

I would really love them to show some rooms with windows between the two saucers this season. It wouldn't be much more difficult or expensive than a starfield and it would make the ship feel more real. They are always sure to show the saucer out the bridge window, and the nacelles out the shuttlebay, so it's not like they're unable to do it the way the other shows were. They'd just have to use the pre-existing sets and show another part of the ship through the window. Everyone seemed to be excited that we'd see shots like that when the ringed saucer design was revealed, and so far, nothing :(

Trying one more time, hopefully it stays long enough for people to see.

It does.

Good to see those airlock/docking ports accounted for here. Deck 1 washrooms to be aft of the docking ports, perhaps?

Yeah, deck one continues for most of the top of the spine, so there's plenty of room for anything. There are also windows there, so I'd suspect some labs and lounges as well as bathrooms.

Regarding the new corridor set, (now revealed to be looking into the turbo-factory), I had a theory about its location before the show started, when they showed corridor with Pike and co. walking through and looking up through the ceiling. I had originally thought it would end up being one of those blue strips of light seen in the secondary hull "greeble pits"

The dark area in between the strongback stripes. Note the blue-ish dashed lines the exact size and shape of the corridor skylight.

Note you can see greebly details out the window which looks like it could be part of sensor systems contained within that pit. Even the workbee flying outside led me to think it was a window looking out to space. Obviously, my theory was wrong and we ended up with the turbo-factory. But I think this would've been a much better and more logical location for the new corridor window, and they could've done all sorts of zoom-ins and shown people walking through from the outside.

In "Context is for Kings", we seem to zoom out from Spore Engineering through one of these dorsal trenches, which is thus portrayed as a skylight, although the camera ride is deliberately shaky and obscure there.

Might well be, then, that any corridor with a skylight could be taken as being below one of the trenches unless we actually see it being below the internal factory space as here, or in one of the spokes, or whatever.

Just like whenever we see the hexagonal wall portholes, we're at liberty to think they open towards space or are blank or provide a view into an interior feature, because these set pieces, too, are generic like that. Which is convenient and, I guess, cool as well.

Timo Saloniemi

The "Context is for Kings" zoom out seems to have been more in this area, coming out from between two hull panels within that gap between the solid lines. But yes, I totally agree that there very well could be identical corridors underneath the trenches as well as the turbo-factory. They could really show anything out that window since the green screen can be whatever VFX they want.

“New Eden,” new ready room. Anyone think they know where it is on the ship? Anyone wanna post screen shots and begin the blessed speculation?

My first guess:

There are a set of windows usually difficult to see, in a section behind and slightly above the bridge. The new ready room has three windows. The shapes “might” correspond to those on the interior model. Might be more windows which could mean another adjacent room, but so far that’s best guess. The episode makes it difficult to determine where Pike and Burnham are when they first enter the bridge.

It's the same Redy Room Lorca used (just off the Bridge) in S1. It just now has more furniture and a few chairs. ;)

Can't be, @Noname Given .
  1. It's three times the size.
  2. Even if they (in universe) took out an interior wall or two, the windows are very different. I thought, maybe it was set to use those two port windows next to the bridge viewscreen/window. But no, there are three windows in the ready room and they are further apart and shaped differently.
  3. After being summoned, Pike and Burnham enter the bridge via the turbo lift doors.
If you look at the establishing Discovery shot with Spock's voice over you can see some (now lit) windows behind the bridge deck, behind the round airlocks, slightly raised like a half deck. That's my best bet.

Having the new Ready Room slightly higher up than the Bridge level would be an excellent excuse for introducing the exposed ceiling beams...

There are two sets of doors there, as usual: opposite the window wall, and to the right if one has one's back to the windows. Is either pair functional in the sense of having shootable corridor behind them? Might the set to the right be taken to lead to the corridor behind the newly opened foyer on the Bridge, in-universe?

Here are the windows I propose could indicate the location of new ready room:
GBsAdAa.png

I think they are using the room behind and above the bridge.

In reference to the doors, its been commonly assumed (though never confirmed) that the interior set of doors in ready rooms lead to a private bathroom.

In the scene close to the end of the episode with Pike and Burnham, she enters the ready room from the central door and we can see a corridor and another door just behind her.

Pic of the room in question, for reference. My best bet is the inner saucer sloped rim, the area in the second picture. As soon as I saw this room, I immediately imagined it as this area in my head. There are couple problems, as the slope of the hull/wall is a little too steep, and the windows aren't perfect rectangles. But we've seen this kind of thing before. The window inside the old airlock alcove set is a super weird shape that doesnt exist anywhere on the ship. I think we can assume the windows on the exterior hull are actually the "almost rectangle" shape, we just have to suspend our disbelief a little bit and say they're different shapes than they are. I like the rear bridge module window idea a lot, but my issue with that is the windows are too spaced apart in the room, whereas the windows above the bridge are tightly packed together. I was really hoping the opening shot of the ship would zoom into this room so we could confirm its location, but oh well....guess not.

Here's the closest we got to a window zoom in. Obviously it doesn't tell us anything, but worth throwing in there I think

Worth noting a very clearly defined deck plan and MSD are visible in this room. Should come in handy for deck layout inspiration on my full scale Minecraft build. Not to get too far off the set topic, but I count at least 20 decks, where the eaglemoss model claims there are only 16.

I stand corrected, I think you're right about the upper windows above the bridge. I remembered them being much more packed together, but in that image they look very similarly laid out to the new set!

@Noah_23 This is great! Thanks for doing the hard work of creating all of those screen shots.

One of the reasons to think it is in fact that is the is the curvature in the room and the angle of the windows from the outside.
If you look at the outer most glass (transparent aluminum) of the window you can see that it is at a steeper angle. But nothing as steep and square as on those saucer windows.

I think that's same cutaway used in Season 1 for the Glenn.

Nope, it's vastly different. The Glenn one was complete nonsense. This new one shows actual deck lines and rough locations of the spore cultivation bay and engineering. And the saucer floor plan is brand new for this season.

Thanks! Yeah I have a google drive folder with 397 Discovery reference images, you need a screenshot of any ship scene from any episode? I'm your man haha.
