Amy, Rory and Rivers ultimate fate at the library

The thing about her death is, The Doctor had years and years, decades, centuries, who knows, to plan for her death so are we REALLY to assume all he did was retro-fit an old sonic screwdriver of his to include the data-ghost device so she could be plugged into the library computer?

Surely with all that time he'd have worked out a way to download her essence into a new body? Even if it is Ganger related or whatnot...

Why not just go back in time and fix the computer so she doesn't have to die in the first place? Death has always been rather final for the Doctor and he hasn't brought anybody back from the dead, I think he has too much respect for the dead to do that. He even told Tegan not to even suggest going back in time to save Adric.

I have wondered if at some point that the Doctor will restore River to a clone body or something. He does have a lot of time to come up with a plan to make it work, but we probably won't see that for awhile since River's "past" is still so very much a part of the series. I hope at the end they can come up with something better than leaving her in the VR world.

Well, you have the gangers from "The Rebel Flesh". River's mind could control one of them.
There is also the technology that made the Doctor's daughter.

It occurs to me that even if the Doctor saves River, how would she feel about leaving the children and her friends there? Especially the kids as she has taken on the role of mother to them. Maybe the Doctor could save them too, or there could be a situation where the VR world is failing somehow and only River could be saved. Or maybe the Doctor only saves River anyways, which could cause her to break off her relationship with him.
Either way, I think the Doctor needs to return to the Library, even if it's just for a visit. I guess he wouldn't miss River enough to go yet since he sees the younger version of her so much, but I'd think it would be very tempting to try to get answers out of her, and that's one place he knows he can find River, but I guess she wouldn't give him spoilers anyways.

A good story would be that he only has the power to save one person from the Library and he saves River against her wishes, who wanted one of the others to be saved.

River is living happily ever after in her own universe with her own family, I don't see the need to bring her back from that.

Would River really be happy living in a digital world looking after imaginary kids for eternity?

She'd never get old or fat and she could go wherever she wanted to by simply changing reality around her. she certainly looked happy.

I know she looked happy, and at the time the episode first aired I accepted it without question. But now, given what we know about her, it it really in character that she would be happy in that environment?

While I'm sure she is happy because she thinks there is no other option for her and the Doctor has literally saved her from Death by putting her in there, if she was ever made aware that she doesn't HAVE to be there for all eternity then I'm sure she'll suddenly become acutely aware that they're not her children and that whoever she settled for in there (I give other Dave more of a chance than Proper Dave tbh), they're not The Doctor and this isn't the real world.

I would think it'd be far easier to bring Donna back than River, since what happened to Donna was his fault. I have to wonder if when the Doctor gave River his sonic screwdriver he not only knew she would die but also knew that his past self since he'd remember doing it would save River, by putting her into Cal. So in a way he already saved her by giving her the screwdriver.

Yeah, he gave her the screwdriver to do the best thing he could to save her life. He knew it would be goodbye, however, which is why he was crying when he did it.

While I don't actually think it's necessary to show that scene, it might be a nice moment. It'll be the closest we could get as the audience to saying goodbye to the character.
