Spoilers American Gods - Season 1

I forgot about the coin so this event seemed random to me. I was wondering how it was going to connect but it makes sense now.

There were a couple of moments where it was sort of Austin Powers-esque with objects obscuring the nudity which is why I brought it up, it just seemed a bit conspicuous (or maybe it was just the "male gaze" kicking in).

I thought the same thing! Good to know I wasn't the only one.
Me, too. He build it and they came!
Fascinating seeing Laura's perspective, as someone reading the book alongside the show I feel so far ahead and so far behind at the same time.

I think that the fact that I have recently listened to the book has spoiled the suspense for me. I knew that Laura came back from the dead and how she did.

I appreciated that we learned more about Shadow and Laura's life together that wasn't covered in the book.

Emily Browning is meant to play a second role on American Gods and I wonder if that means that Laura and this other character are connected in some way that they are not connected it the book.

That was entertaining. The world has felt pretty awful lately so to have Crispin Glover as a God, Gillian Anderson as Marilyn Monroe and Ziggy Stardust not to mention Laura vs Mad Sweeney is pretty damned great.

I guess my earlier thoughts on Emily Browning's modesty were due to them holding for the shock factor in this one.

That poor guy in the morgue though...

There's a terror in knowing what Mr. World is about.

Oh yeah, did anyone think of Scott Evil when Tech Kid asks why they don't just off Wednesday. :) Those damn movies always come to mind when I'm watching stuff...

Poor, poor Mad Sweeney.

I am not sure how I feel about Tech Boy, he looks very different in appearance to the book.

I actually like him better than the book version, something about his portrayal just works for me.
I felt bad for out of luck Sweeney, too.

Forget Lucille Ball. Gillian Anderson as Media pretending to be David Bowie as Ziggy Stardust is the epitome of sublime. Her as Marilyn Monroe was pretty sweet, too, and I was thoroughly impressed by Crispin Glover, too. This show is so well cast. And we still haven't seen everyone or this season.

Like others here, I loved the confrontation between Laura and Mad Sweeney. Laura isn't going to take shit from anyone.

One thing I thought was odd: Granted Shadow Moon is in shock by Laura's sudden appearance in his motel room "alive" but I would have thought at some point he would have asked about her arm.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Hell of a shocker, too. Felt Tim Burton-esque.

Refresh my memory: How was he described in the book?

In the book he is described as a fat, young man in a long black coat with acne on his cheek.

I don't mind Tech Boy's appearance here because you just look at him and think, "Stupid punk." It kinda works. Although, it does make him feel a little less menacing than in the book.

Ahhhh...that's right. I remember now visualizing as a somewhat grotesque man, not unlike how I imagined Harold in The Stand.

Yeah, that's more or less my take on it. I don't mind the change because Mr. World and Media come off strongly menacing.

Hahahaha...although that's an insult to Tech Boy. ;)

Forgot to mention earlier how much I loved the opening scenes. The three-dimensional animation was gorgeous and the whole sequence felt like it leapt out of Gaiman's pages.

Incidentally, the director for this episode was Vincenzo Natali, who directed Cube as well as some episodes of Hannibal (which means we may see him again).

Stop me if you've heard this one before: a dead wife, a jinn and a leprechaun walk into a bar...

Actually, I'm a little confused with Salim/Not Salim because he seems to be seeking the jinn but I thought he became the jinn. Not quite sure what's going on there yet. Sweeney and Laura are fun enough to enjoy that their company alone is entertaining even when they aren't actually doing much. The physical disparity

Interesting concept with Vulcan as the alt-right God of ammunition. Though I found the awkward way they filmed his sacrifice unintentionally funny. That town was certainly creepy though.

Was this Mexican Jesus? There's apparently a lot of different ones.

Yes, they said as much---a Jesus for everyone, a version for every group. Poor Mexican Jesus got killed (again?) at the border.

My issue with the series is:

How dense/clueless/dumb is Shadow Moon supposed to be? I ask because he continues to ask "Mr. Wednesday" - "Who are you?" - DESPITE him being present in the police interrogation room where "Mr. World" flashed "ODIN" across some large flatscreens.

Again, from what I've inferred, Shadow is supposed to be an intelligent guy, and somewhat schooled; so (given everything else he's experienced so far to date; how is he still so clueless about "Mr. Wednesday's" 'real' identity?

Maybe he's not a student of myth, religion and comics.
