All Good Things

AGT's story is a little dull in places, but the awesome last 5 minutes elevates it to best ST finale ever status. :p

Agreed!

BTW: Voyager's Endgame was horrible, IMHO.

Horrible? Not completely. But by the end I was like "WTF, that's it???"
I wasn't. The whole first act of Endgame was about what people did when they got home. Having some kind of "where are they now" epilogue after all that would have been redundant.

No, I agree with that and that's not what I was implying. Simply that I was emotionally unsatisfied with the end of Endgame. I'm no writer, so don't know what exactly needed to change to improve that.

AGT's ending on the other hand was incredibly emotionally satisfying to me. Picard joining the poker game, and his "the sky's the limit line" just made it into a wonderful finale to me.

I was browsing this website and found alot of people seem to think All Good Things was the best season ending and the DS9 ending was the worst.

...and that End Game as bad.

I actually think End Game was the best, sure they should have had another two eps showing them at home.

But AGT was:

-A stupid plot (an anomaly paradox...come on!)
-The time travel was depressing (in spite of the cool ships the upgraded Enterprise D and the Pasture)

I can name dozens of better episodes so I'm dying to know why people like this one so much?

Hmm I just disagree all around. I think Endgame was kind of a cheap, time-travely ending to a very clustered story-arch. The Next Generation had a really good series finale, and it was entertaining-- ending with Q the way the series began. DS9 was, for me, the best series finale leading into really fantastic relaunch novels.

I think the toast at the beginning was the key. It wasn't about getting Voyager home. It was about the journey. In the calamity of the last few minutes a new life is born and they are home. The End. I don't really see how they could have ended it any other way, without it being gratuitous. I found the last few minutes of DS9 to be sappy and gratuitous and I am actually really glad that VOY didn't attempt to go that route.
Don't get me wrong, Ultimately DS9's finale rocked and was a great bookend to how the series had started, as AGT was to TNG. If you put Endgame back to back with Caretaker you see how the characters had all developed and what their realised potential became.
Was Engame perfect? To some..perhaps not, but I thought that its finale worked on more levels than it failed. It was certainly worth the ride.

Exploing the unknown possibilities of existance?
I'm sure Picard already knew what a paradox was, he didn't need to travel through three time zones, find out he was going to get a degenerative neurological disorder, Deanna was going to die, Worf and Riker would hate each other etc...in order to figure that out.

Apparently he did. Q showed Picard how to love.

ok you've lost me

I don't think half the posters here were watching the same show I was..

TNG: Picard is confronted with Humanity still being on trial. Taking him through different periods of time, Q makes Picard realise that Humanity's role in the universe should not become complacent or "just another day at the office." It's not just about exploring anomalies, it's about exploring ourselves.

Q was trying to make a point to Picard by taking him into the future and then into the past to destroy humanity that space exploration is more investigating anomalies.

Frankly, its the best possible finale TNG could ever have hoped to have. Its perfect - couldn't have imagined a better end, myself.

Ok, I actually see where your coming from now, think this is the first time on a board (tho I've only ever been on 3 in my life) someones argument has convinced me to change my opinion.

End Game was still good.
The DS9 finale wrapped alot up nicely but was still bad

Can't help you there. I enjoyed everything about the DS9 finale except for the cheesy sentimental "looking back on the good times" montage.

Sisko becomes a god through destroying the devil. The conflict of good vs. evil doesn't get more biblical than that. Hehe.

Thats where we differ, for the most part I didn't like the Bajoran religious aspect, I mean it's one thing not having ANY evidence about your God, or knowledge about him/her/it whatever.
But KNOWING that they're aliens and that they thus don't answer your prayers and still beleiving in them?

I did like Winn though, loved to hate
