So, my two cents....
I really loved this show. A great blend between scifi and fantasy. As Star Wars has been for me.
The callbacks to both Rebels and The Clone Wars were perfectly handled in my opinion, with Hayden really being the best Anakin he ever could be. Seeing some behind the scenes stuff, you see he really understands both Anakin AND Vader and that enhanced his performance deeply. And it was a prime example of what happens when actors are working with directors who understand directing. George Lucas is a great visual storyteller and it shows, but he can't work with actors. Now Anakin is so much layered and nuanced. The hint at the end that we may see more of Anakin as a force ghost with Ahsoka if there is a second season makes me very happy.
Now, sure.... Some things are left in a way that make me think 'I dunno'.
Mostly, Thrawn's return to the galaxy. You'd think this would lead to something pretty big. Yet nothing during the sequels hints at a major conflict between the fall of the Empire and the rise of the First Order. So I'm really curious to see where this goes. Will it turn out that Thrawn eventuelly gave birth to what becomes the First Order? TROS seems to indicate that it was Palpatine all along. Or perhaps while recovering, Palpy becomes aware of Thrawn's return and sets things in motion behind the scenes to aid Thrawn for a while and then remove him from the board?
What saddens me the most, is that IF we get a season two, Ray will not be back to give us one hell of a character. I am still very curious where this plotline will go, but I can't imagine who could fill his shoes. I've heard some fans saying that Liev Schreiber could be an option.
