Spoilers Agents of SHIELD- The Final Season Discussion

I wish ABC dedicated the entire night to Shield with a retro look back in the 8:00 hour. This show, for better or worse, served ABC really well over the years and while it wasn't the ratings Juggernaut like DWTS or Modern Family, ABC still stuck with it and even gave us Agent Carter. 7 years is a really good run, and I think a special look back would have been nice, like what Arrow did before it's finale.
Or just have Michael Pena as Luis give us a recap with the actors lip synching their parts ;)

It would have been the perfect t quarantine project!

I'm betting it's a big time red herring. They want us to think Fitz is dying, but it'll turn out that Simmons was pregnant. She left Fitz and their daughter behind when she came on the mission, which is why she freaked out so hard when she remembered during the time storm. And why forgetting is so important to their plan. Simmons can't know what she's given up, or she'll fall apart and race back to them.
I like this idea.

I don't think it was entirely ABC's choice to keep the show going this long. Back before one of the other seasons when their renewal was questionable, I read somewhere that it was going to be renewed because Disney wanted at least one Marvel show on ABC.
The stuff with Daisy, Sousa and Mack on the Quinjet was great. I especially loved Mack threatening Sousa, and then the whole Quake bit was hilarious.
I'm not quite sure what to make of Kora right now, it seemed like May was getting through to her, but then her hug with Nathanial at the end seem pretty authentic.
It was nice to finally get to see Fitz, and start to get closer to a reveal of what is going on with him. The way they were talking did make it sound like Fitz is sick, but now that I've seen the pregnancy idea, I'm hoping that's what it is.
We finally saw the characters acknowledge that they're definitely in a new timeline now, and that things don't have to play out how they did before. So now the big question is, will they get back home, or are they stuck her permanently?

That could explain why he was that white space in Simmons last memory. I had thought it was because she was forgetting where he was, but what if that is actually where he is, and that was the last time she saw him before she was locked out.

It appears the end is nigh-- or rather now, since the Kokomos have blasted all of the SHIELD installations out of existence. With the convenient exception of the Lighthouse, so Coulson and May are still around for the time being. But the end of the series is nigh and it's going to take a lot of work to undo all the damage to the timeline in a two-hour finale. Maybe they'll just go all the way back to Olduvai and really start from scratch.

Aside from the awful Apocalypse and massive morbidity, this was another fun episode, with lots of great character work and the slow peeling back of mysteries. We finally get a look at Fitz for the first time this season, but it's in a flashback-- in which term "blood work" is used in an ominous fashion, supporting Gemma's theory that he is dead. But that's perhaps a bit too obvious. It's also possible that Fitz is dead, but his consciousness is hiding in DIANA. But that just raises the question of why he would hide in DIANA rather than get himself a cool LMD body like Coulson did. Of course, the really big question is why Gemma suddenly forgot that he even existed after Nate accessed Diana through the Framework device.

Back at the Lighthouse, both Coulson and May have to deal with the fact that neither is who they used to be. Coulson's cybernetic nature apparently now allows him some insight into Sibyl's machine mind, while it's now May's unhappy duty to employ her newfound empathy. Neither seems to have done much good in the short term.

Poor Deke. Beat to a pulp again.

I found it interesting that Grant Ward was the first name on Kora's assassination list-- and even more interesting that Coulson defended his potential to be a good person. Perhaps a little foreshadowing for a grand finale that gives us a best-of-all-possible-worlds ending?

But the best scenes in the episode had to be between Mack and Sousa aboard the quinjet. "What are your intentions?" :rommie: Certainly the perfect question to put to the square agent from the 50s, but it also cements Mack's place as Daisy's father figure-- which is especially poignant when you remember that Mack's own daughter would be dating by now if she had lived. And all the teasing about "Quake" just cracked me up. So to speak.

"YoYo owes me twenty bucks." :rommie:

I thought Coulson was Daisy's father figure. Then we got her real father still out their as well though who knows what happened to him with the timeline changed. So how many dad's does Daisy now have!

I know it won't happen, but I'd like the finale to lead into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ... which then would be the true finale for AoS.

This is the shot where you can see all the SHIELD bases on the map. Don't worry that some of them have been destroyed already, the text is all the same:

S.H.I.E.L.D.
BASE 288773 [RLV]
COMMAND CTR.

The only one that's different is a dot (apparently) indicating the Lighthouse, just above the icon for (presumably) the Triskelion, marked "LH 299 KL5LOC". There aren't any other unique callouts.

(Hawaii is cut off the map entirely, but I suspect there'd be a SHIELD base there, since Diego Garcia seems to have one one, sitting out there all alone in the middle of the Indian Ocean.)

I'm not sure if there's any in-joke in the caption, though I suspect the code next to the Lighthouse, "KL5," is a reference to fake "555" telephone numbers, just because it seems like a weird coincidence otherwise.

I hope I cry at least once on Wednesday. I decided to binge watch it for two reasons. I liked seeing Joss Wheadon's work last year with watching Buffy, Dollhouse, Angel, and Firefly, and I was watching Stargate Universe and Ming-Na played a main character. I didn't think I would have that much of an emotional journey during that time, and it all comes to an end on Wednesday.

That was a very nice message and I'm already feeling the feels. :(

Well, Diego Garcia has a US Naval base there so it's not so surprising SHIELD has a presence there. But, yeah, there's no way SHIELD doesn't have a base on Hawaii (the Navy has three!).

It takes a village.

Next week is the end...is it too late to put in a request for using "the Lime-in-the-Coconuts"?
I'll try to work that in. :rommie: Enoch probably counts as the Lime in the Coconuts.....

They (film and TV) always choose odd places in Australia to put the dot. This one is better than many (they so often plop it in the middle of the country, ignorant of the fact that there's not much out there) but I still wonder if they just chose the spot at random. It looks like it might be in the Fitzgerald River National Park though, so maybe Fitz will end up with someone named Gerald instead of Gemma. ;)

I never noticed that with Australia. It's not that hard to find a big city like Sydney or Brisbane.
