Agents of SHIELD - Season 2 Discussion Threads. (Spoilers Likely)

Not if he is an LMD and that thing picking in his brain in T.A.H.I.T.I was implanting memories.

I hope not.

I know Thanos is the big bad of the universe but I wonder if the Avengers are going to go up against Kang?

I guess that last part goes in the other thread.

I'd be saving Kang for "Avengers 5" (or whatever it ends up called), mayhap. I'd want to give myself the room to do this one right, after all.

Live action movies take too long to make.

They could have made 12 cartoon movies by now.

I want them to include Iron Lad and Immortus, in any movie focussing on Kang.

Which means we have to wait 10 to 15 years for Abby Forston to grow up... Or just have two Cassie Langs (yay time travel!) wandering around, one who is a child and the other is 17 played by a 24 year old actress.

Either way, they'd have noticed by now. They're sentimental at C-SHIELD, but they do notice what's happening under their noses for the most part, "Theta Protocol" aside...

It was really nice to get some backstory for May. I didn't expect it to actually tie in to the Inhumans stuff. I was kind of surprised that Skye's mom told Skye who she was already, I expected her to keep that to herself for at least a few more episodes.
I honestly didn't even think about the fact that Raina was clairvoyant until you guys mentioned up on the other page, that is ironic.
Definitely curious to see what Theta Protocol is. It does make sense that it would be a set up for the spin-off, they said it would be based off of something introduced in the next few episodes, and Theta seems like a good candidate.

EDIT: There are reports going around that the spin-off with star Adrianne Palicki (Bobbi Morse) and Nick Blood (Lance Hunter).

I'm conflicted about this. On the one hand, Mockingbird is a character that was ruined by making her a minion of the idiot Gonzales, so I'd happily see her leave AoS for a spin off I could ignore. On the other hand I like Hunter, and I don't want him leaving for a spin off with Mockingbird (why couldn't Mac go with her instead?). But, on the other other hand, maybe this means the spin off will involve Gonzales's fake SHIELD, meaning his group would leave at the same time as Mockingbird. As much as I like Hunter, I'd choose him leaving if it meant that Fake SHIELD goes with him.

Its weird what they decided to spin off, though. Is another show about super spies/agents going to be able to differentiate itself from AoS? Especially starring two characters that have so far only been seen on TV, so they don't even have the MCU connection Coulson gave to AoS? It will be interesting to see what happens.

Hunh. So this show is barely managing to get renewed, but they're making a spin-off and diluting the brand and taking characters from the main show? Weird.

They are also reducing the main cast from the main show by at least two principle actors, who are if they are not replaced will save the shows budget between 60 to 100 grand per episode, depending on what their salaries are, who in truth may have probably only been made into principle actors short term because their spinoff show has always been in the works.

Remember how hard you facepalmed when it became clear that Kieko, arrived, married the chief, got knocked up, gave birth and left the Enterprise D all in less than a year before the first episode of Deep Space Nine.

She wasn't an accident, fleshing out O'Brien wasn't an accident, it was all a trick by Berman to make Miles Edward O'Brien "spoinoff" worthy.

And #### me if he didn't.

That Agents of SHIELD is low-rated or struggling is a fallacy. Over-nights might not be so impressive, but over-night numbers don't mean what they used to.

After Hulu, DVR's and other streaming sources are taken into account, AoS ratings have always been respectable. See this article from TV by the Numbers regarding the recent ep, "Melinda".

According to Variety, Season one tied for the fifth most watched broadcast show of the season.

Last season, the show established a solid ratings base for ABC in live plus same-day numbers (averaging a 2.4 in adults 18-49 and 6.9 million viewers overall), but grew in the live plus seven measure once DVR viewers were factored in, jumping to a 4.0 demo rating and 10.4 million viewers, which helped it tie for fifth place among all broadcast series last year, behind only “The Big Bang Theory,” “Modern Family,” “The Blacklist” and “Grey’s Anatomy.”

It's always listed on the bubble in various news articles. They basically say the ratings are bad but it's kept around since it's one vast advertisement for Marvel Movies

<<And #### me if he didn't. >>

And if I want to anyway????

IIRC, that was more like two years. "Data's Day" was a Season 4 episode; DS9 premiered in the middle of TNG's Season 6.

There is a very long line.

Moving away from me quickly.

So your'd be much like a salmon swimming upstream, if you're really interested.

I don't know why you think it was on the brink of being renewed or not. It's a Marvel/Disney, therefore ABC production. Or if you look at it another way, a commercial for MCU movies that actually makes money (as opposed to regular commercials that don't just by being broadcast).

So will the new series be "Marvel's Traitors of S.H.I.E.L.D."?

Well 91 - 92 seems like one year, but it's actually almost 2 years, which is really 3 seasons... Shit.

Sorry if this theory has already been floated, but couldn't Theta Protocol be more of a protective measure set in place by Coulson as a reaction after seeing how certain "powers" have been treated (ie. Sky and Mike)? This new base could be a place where individuals with powers could go to feel safe and secure, and if interested, could learn to use their gifts safely. I could see May's husband working with Coulson on this if the thought was that the individuals using the base weren't primarily being trained for fieldwork. Just an idea.

Also, I love the idea of a Mockingbird show. When they announced the idea of a spin-off, it was one of the concepts I was hoping was being considered. And it would be fantastic to include Hunter. Especially given the issues they're now having in AOS.

My two cents.

But they're characters who were added onto the core cast this season. They're "extra" characters in a sense. So the show wouldn't be losing any of its original core members to the spinoff.
