Agents of SHIELD - Season 2 Discussion Threads. (Spoilers Likely)

^Not that I dislike the character, but I really hope something like that is planned. I say that because Lincoln *is* pretty dull as Ward was in early season one but it's not like they can pull off that personality flip twice. I think that like Cal and Raina, his character's story will have a logical end-point that will hopefully come sooner rather than later.

That said, I think Ward is more likely to go after May's ex than Skye's new squeeze. I mean it was her that essentially tricked him into murdering his own girlfriend, no?

Yeah, I can't say the Lincoln news was received well on my end, either. I figured it was inevitable, but I was by no means awaiting the word. I'm not a fan of what I've seen of his actor and I don't feel as though the character contributed to Season 2 in any meaningful way. It sort of felt like almost every scene he was in was from certain other shows I'm incapable of getting into.

But hey, it's AoS. The writers have proven themselves overall, I think. There could be some really cool stuff in store, and the actor may step up to the plate. Maybe he'll pull a Terry Farrell.

Initially, I thought he was OK. It wasn't until he was in that constant mistrust mode that he became a bore to me. Maybe as a B-Team Avenger, he'll have a better range of emotions.

Lincoln's power is something electrical, right? Rumor is that he is Hellfire to Skye/Daisy's Quake. That could be interesting.

Is there anything particularly special about him being Hellfire to Daisy's Quake? I don't know the first thing about comics, so I'm always at an odd, disadvantaged place in MCU discussions. Do they have a meaningful relationship/chemistry/etc?

I don't really have strong feelings about Lincoln joining the cast full time. He didn't really do anything spectacular last season, but that doesn't mean they couldn't do interesting things next season.

The power to put you to sleep through the television with only his personality. They're deciding on whether to give him the codename Professor ZZZZZZ or Dr. Ambien once he completes medical school.

^^ That was worthy. :bolian:

Frankly, I'm much more interested in WTF is going on with Jemma.
I hope it results in lots and lots of black leather. Enough with the Good Girl Simmons routine.
Oh, good lord, please, no. Not to the black leather, which I can take or leave, but to Dark Gemma in general.

Well I'd argue she's already "gone dark", or at least started down the path. She's gotten pretty damn ruthless of late, managed to outwit Bobbie (the expert interrogator) TWICE and rather casually planned to murder Ward without hesitation. It's just that nobody besides Fitz has any clue there's been a fundamental shift in her mentality.

I hope that whatever happens to her is fixed by mid season. I want Agents of Shield, not Avengers part two.

With Skye's Special Ops team and a coming explosion in the number of activated Inhumans running around the world they seem to be promising that the focus will be on an Avengers Too, only we are secret. Where that leaves middle aged women with MMA skills in the mix remains to be seen.

In the comics, Shield was always about stealth and the fancy tech that they used to stop super powered individuals. Sure, the Avengers were around, but they were their own thing. So far, the Avengers they have include Coulson, Quake, Deathlok, and Mockingbird. With Lincoln promoted to cast member and Gemma on the fence (she could be good or bad), soon, they'll be more Avengers than Shield Agents.

^Well, the movie Avengers were essentially SHIELD agents (or at least civilian consultants) themselves to begin with. The whole "Avengers Initiative" was Fury's project. It's only in the wake of The Winter Soldier that the Avengers have become an independent organization (business? charity? NGO?).

^Probably something more along the lines of a Blackwater/Academi, type group/entity, but you know, less douche-y.

Given the direct link between the Avengers and SHIELD in the MCU, I don't think trying to categorize people as one or the other based on their past comic book or movie affiliations has much point to it. As of now, in the MCU, Coulson, Mockingbird, Quake and Deathlok are clearly not Avengers. In fact the only one of them that ever has been an Avenger in this continuity is Coulson (and let's be honest, that was really more of an honorary kind of thing), and the chances are high that none of them are ever going to be an Avenger, either.

I could understand wondering about the changing ratio of powered vs unpowered agents on AOS, but Coulson and Mockingbird are definitely on the unpowered side of that equation.
