That's surprising. I'd thought Lincoln's character arc was pretty much over. And I've always found Mitchell kind of bland.

I was surprised that they didn't kill him off to give Skye something to be angsty about.

Linocln was one of the more boring characters this season, but that's not necessarily the actor's fault, the show just didn't have an interesting story arc for him.
I would assume/hope they have an interesting story planned for him next season.
That said, he's certainly a logical character for Skye to select for her team, since she already knows and trusts him. We have to see at least a few familiar faces on her team. It can't be all new people.

Well since it turned out her mum was twisted and had to be put down by her father, I think she has an abundance of things to angst over.
And yeah, put me down for wanting them to do something more interesting with Lincoln next season. I know it's logical he'd be the first in line for Skye's Secret Warriors team, but it'd suck if all he's there to do it to make goo-goo eyes at Skye and create relationship drama.
Part of me has to wonder though: since he's a medical doctor in training, dose this mean Simmons' role will significantly change after being pulled into that thing?

No, he was pretty much exactly as boring on The Tomorrow People. (In which he also played a leading member of a hidden human subspecies with superpowers.)
Lincoln reminds me a bit of Ward in the beginning- a generic role filled by a generic appearing person cast to fit expectations.
After what they decided to do with Ward who knows what story arc awaits Lincoln...

Ward will happen to him, dramatically it is almost inevitable. Not in a Ward and Licoln will fight over the girl, but Ward will kill him in the most gruesome way possible to take his revenge way.
