Agents of SHIELD. Season 1 Discussion Thread

This thread has changed my opinion a bit for the last episode. I still rank it as one of the good ones but punching Ward for settling for her after he was mind controlled does sound a little petty for May.

While I agree that there's a double standard about rape and that May didn't come off very sympathetically in this episode, it might be wrong about the issue being addressed. I seem to remember somebody stating that being controlled would be something that's hard for Ward to deal with-- but I'm not sure if a character said it or if I read it on the Internet afterward. :rommie:

As far as the rape goes, it's definitely true, but Ward is this show's James Bond analog. He's no doubt had sex with many women in the line of duty and it's not like he was tied up and beaten; this would be something he's very familiar with, so it wouldn't be such a big deal.

^It really should be though, don't you think?

May is at least as tough as Ward (probably more) and if a male character like, say Loki had done to May what was done to Ward then there'd be no hesitation in calling it what it is.

Plus, regardless of how much someone has sex (James Bond or not), it doesn't mean it's okay to rape them.

Raping his mind is massive, and raping his penis is tiny.

She made him almost kill people he loves like family, so how is making him enjoy being raped even close to that on the violation spectrum?

^With that in mind, I think that Rooster bloke came off worse. He may have been an arsehole, but she made him actually strangle his own wife to death because she was being loud. That guy isn't getting out of the mental ward any time soon. Indeed, just look what a similar experience did to Selvig.

Yea, is fate is pretty bad. I felt bad for Mr. Newlywed as well. His marriage is over. How does he convince his new wife he was mind controlled when he ran off with the hottie the day after his wedding?

If he did survive, he could patch up things with his fiance. After Avengers, saying a god controlled me is more believable, plus Shield will back him up.

Will they? Will they really?

S.H.I.E.L.D. is usually about covering these things up.

I'm sure there were agents swarming all over the places where Lorelei was, so yeah, they'd back the guy up with his wife I'd assume.

After all, Thor is known to exist in this world now, so no need to keep the existence of Asgardians a secret. It's been established that people are aware of their existence.

SHIELD still does cover things up when they can, though. Their goal is to contain.

Who's watching this Assembling a Universe special? Does it need its own thread?

About a two second video of Glenn Talbot.

Now they're "spoiling" the identity of the Winter Soldier ;)
