Actually... I quite like that episode.

Live and Let Die at least had the mitigation of working from some pretty overtly racist source material, whereas as far as Trek goes....surely not? What were they thinking? The bit that always makes me confused is that nothing in the script even explains why the parochial, petty aliens had to look like afro carribbean stereotypes, they were just cast that way for no apparent reason.

Oh and strange use of the prime directive as a plot point?

I was never unduly bothered by Star Trek Nemesis. That's another one I can put forward. It gets a lot of negativity but I'm rather eccentric in some of my tastes.

To sum up Nemesis for me is that it's a composite of what went on before, adequately executed but without being truly original.

Easy. At first, I thought it was supposed to be a comedy episode. Then I realized that it wasn't....which made me think it might have been better had it actually been a comedy.

Masks is the absolute worst. I wondered how Stewart and Spiner kept straight faces during some of those scenes, it was so ridiculous.

JMHO of course.

Masks, its problem was that it was damned boring.
FTFY.

Plus, it was made at the height of the blaxploitation craze, so it wasn't hanging out there all by itself at the time.

Also, Yaphet Kotto, who played the big bad in that one, didn't seem to mind. On the contrary, he's infectiously enthusiastic about his turn as a Bond villain in DVD commentaries.

Apart from ENT's Bound, which I mentioned abovethread, I also like Harbinger (for the Trip/T'Pol stuff) and two other guilty pleasures are Carbon Creek (fun to see Vulcans in the 1950s) and Marauders (a fun romp, plus T'Pol in a white catsuit).

On VOY I rather enjoyed Twisted (rearranged rooms are fun) and Rise (for depicting the concept of a space elevator), but I know they aren't much liked.

I've always been fond of "The Omega Glory", which catches a lot of flak for some reason. But I'm deeply cheesy and deeply patriotic and have been since I was very young. So... eh. I like it.
"These Are The Voyages."
I'm putting all of you that said this episode on notice. Notice of what, I don't know. But still - NOTICE. :p

Believe me, nothing would give me greater pleasure than to type the words that Trekkies long to read. But on the other side of that very same coin ... I've Gotta Be Me! You know? Like that song from the Broadway musical "Golden Rainbow." It goes something like this (ah-one & ah-two):

Whether I'm right or whether I'm wrong. Whether I find a place in this world or never belong. I've gotta be me!

It gets the head to bobbing. The toes to tapping. Lyrics such as these reach into the Human heart ... and soothe the very soul. And, in keeping with the theme of 'Being Me,' I must say that "These Are The Voyages" is a very enjoyable diversion from the Realities of Life ... and the Cares of the World.

Good. Good. I'm with you....

...and, you've lost me.

NOTICE!!! :p

This thread is interesting, because even though there's some recent franchise activity, we're still where we've been for a decade, where - in a desperate attempt to slate our thirst for STAR TREK - episodes that we didn't care for, before, have become ... palatable. Even then ... it's an impossible task! Knowing all of TNG has done little to sate my appetite for that greatest expression of Gene's Vision.

I don't think it's case of us being so starved for Trek that we now like the episodes we used to scorn. People aren't really talking here about changing their minds regarding certain episodes, just reporting that they've always liked some episodes that other fans hold in disrepute.

I loved "Catspaw" as a kid and was always pleased when it got rerun in syndication. I thought "Genesis" was a lot of fun the first time it aired and haven't changed my opinion since. Etc.

This isn't about us holding our noses because we're hopelessly pining for TNG. :)

I liked ENT's "Bound" simply for the fact that it was the last time I can remember that Trek truly SURPRISED me with a plot twist (the Orion men being the slaves, not the women).
