Re: An idea for Trek 12...

There's no substantial science fiction/fantasy in it beyond the extremely familiar faux-futuristic setting. I like Trek episodes and movies that are sf-ish a great deal better than those that just transpose conventions of some other genre - political thriller, mystery, western - into the setting.

Re: Russell Crowe as a Klingon Nemesis?

He's way too fat these days. Klingons in TOS were mean and lean, they only became fat in TNG onwards.

/why yes, I'm kidding.

Hope so. He's only fat right now because of a role.

Actually Russell Crowe was first choice for Nero back in 2007....He was already contracted to film another movie at the time of trek filming in 2007 so Bana got the role...
There's actually a cool interview at IGN.com from back in 2007 I think where he and Christian Bale are interviewed (3:10 to Yuma) and when Russ is asked about which villain he's been approached to play, you have Christian Bale whispering to the camera "Klingon!!"

Re: Russell Crowe as a Klingon Nemesis?

Forget this idea right away. Crowe is a diva and would never stand for a 3 hours makeup sessions every morning.

Re: An idea for Trek 12...

Why would Kahn be leading a group of militant Vulcans? Wouldn't Sybock make more sense?

Yeah, I was debating that myself. I suppose Sybok could be there instead.

That's fair enough. I suppose sci-fi elements wouldn't be the focus of my story.

Star Trek XII

I would like to officially nominate the sub-forum title on the Trek BBS for the next Star Trek movie to be 'So Very Tired' until the official title is unveiled in due time.

I'll even make a mock teaser poster using the title and everything...

Oh go on, it'll be fun.

I'm not in charge of what the forum subtitle says; that's Bonz's call. I'll be happy to move this over to the thread where people are talking about what they'd like to see in a sequel, though, and that would be as good a place as any to post your teaser poster, once it's finished.

Do not attempt to stand while thread is in motion...

Absolute Musts for XII?

They got so many nice references to the Past in ST11, but are there anymore they really should definatly put in?
What are the fundamentally absolute Musts for the next film?
I suggest:

. A proper Away Team scene, tricorders etc, complete with disposable Redshirt.
. "He's Dead, Jim," and More McCoy in general.
. Dilithium, problem with/lack of.
. Transporter Malfunction
. Some sort of non-corporeal entity, very classic Trek

Re: Absolute Musts for XII?

I could do without dilithium problems, but yes, I very much want to see a landing party, Kirk, Spock, McCoy, and some redshirt go to some planet, use the tricorder. Maybe some exploding rocks ;)

Re: Absolute Musts for XII?

How about a new engineering set that looks like the engine room of a futuristic ship instead of a sewage plant? Bob Orci basically admitted it was because of money: "the location we used gave us a production value that would've cost millions if we merely tried to build it". So, don't cheap out this time. Build an engineering set that retains the industrial ethic of the first film but looks like something that comes from the future. Can we please see a matter/anti-matter core? Sheesh.

Re: Absolute Musts for XII?

Solid writing, a decent villian, some nice character moments, some nice FX, maybe a battle or two. That's all.

Re: Absolute Musts for XII?

learn some more of Scottys little friend, but I totally agree about the engineering needs to be drastically changed, they could just about get away with it on the Kelvin but not on the Enterprise.

Also for the Spock/ Uhuru thing to be totally forgetten about.

those are the two things I cant forgive about this movie

Re: Absolute Musts for XII?

I want to see an alien society controlled by an ancient computer that is either a child or a god.

Or possibly both. :D

The non-corpereal entities along with god-like beings such as Q and Tralene and Apollo are among my least favorite episodes.

I would like to see more of the Kirk-Spock-McCoy trio

I would like to see the crew get into a do or die emergency that doesn't involve Earth of the entire galaxy.

I didn't see these new communicators in the new movie so I hope they are featured next time.
