Re: What Kind Of "Easter Eggs" Would You Like In Trek XII?

Well I suppose "Easter Eggs" is the correct term for this.

So does anyone else have any thoughts?

I think is referred to as a 'nod to a plot point from TrekXI' or an in-joke or cameo depending on what exactly they would put in for the Trekker.
The Trek XII plot is really up in the air at the moment.
Will they remake any Trek story from the past? Or unshot Trek TV story/script draft, comic book story, novel or have a mostly original idea is the real question we'll all be wondering over the next 12-18 months.
There are a handful of threads in Future Trek on the next film about it.

Re: What Kind Of "Easter Eggs" Would You Like In Trek XII?

Keenser in the background during a Engineering scene, preferably sitting on something.

More Tribbles. There is no such thing as too many Tribbles, no matter what Trouble they cause.

Have "Continuity nod" Ship names to either past events, characters or TOS ships, like the USS Richard Robau, the USS Tucker, the USS Defiant (bonus if it isn't all there), USS Intrepid (although it obviously wouldn't be all-Vulcan in this timeline, I'd imagine) and, of course, the USS Constellation.

Two Klingons walk into a bar, one has ridges, one doesn't. Scotty asks why one of them doesn't have ridges. "We do not discuss it with outsiders."

I think it'd be neat if somebody sang the lyrics to the Original Theme song in the background.

Admiral Pike is inspecting the Enterprise at a Starbase and sees Nurse Chapel. He remarks "Funny, you look like my old First Officer."

Make the ending of the Novelization canon, have a Beagle randomly run around the Enterprise.

Screw it, they should finally just put in "Beam me up, Scotty." The twist is that they'd have somebody else in the Transporter room at the time.

Re: What Kind Of "Easter Eggs" Would You Like In Trek XII?

Commodore Robert April or a mention of Admiral Archer/Reed/Sato/Mayweather.

Oh yeah, and Sulu temp reassigned to work on an experimental ship with registry NX-2000.

Re: What actors / characters / plots do you want to see in Star Trek X

lets have em slip in the Millennium Falcon again....

Russell Crowe as a Klingon Nemesis?

So, what do you guys think? I saw this really quick interview on Rottentomatoes (literally like a second) where this was suggested. I think it could be a very interesting choice. I'd like to see 2nd movie that doesn't ignore the fall of the Vulcans, but has the Klingons taking advantage of a weakened Federation. I'd like to see them bring back Worf, too, as Worf's grandfather and potential friend...

Re: Russell Crowe as a Klingon Nemesis?

He made a great Captain Kirk in Master and Commander. So I would think that he'd make at least a passable Klingon commander.

I just can't get behind bringing back Worf. If they want to cast Michael Dorn for a different role, so be it. But to start trotting out characters from the previous shows or movies just shouldn't happen.

There's been some chatter out there of redoing things like Khan (whether it's overblown or not), but honestly, if we're in a different timeline then the opportunity here is to do NEW things. If this were a TV series, I'd be all over the occasional remake of a TOS episode or something but since it's a movie series, with far less time to waste, then each movie needs to be it's own new thing.

Unless J.J. only gives him 5 minutes total screen time like he did with Bana/Nero!:vulcan:

He was in TUC.

Re: What Kind Of "Easter Eggs" Would You Like In Trek XII?

I would like to see...

Well, it's too early for an infant Demora Sulu or a young Lwaxana Troi. I would be okay with Guinan or at least just her hat.

I really want to see Kang, Kor, and Koloth. That would make me happy. Maybe a brief cameo of Kirk in bed with Dr. Marcus.

Honestly, and this is actually another reason why I don't like the destruction of Vulcan... It makes focusing on the remaining Vulcan populace even more relevant.

But damn, the son of Sarek spent so much energy on reunification pre-Nero, it would be kind of awesome to see the same thing again, but TOTALLY different.

Sybok, full of emotion and PISSED as hell, attempting to gather together as many of the surviving Vulcans as he can, freeing them from their bonds of logic, and attempting to take over Romulus. By force or subversion or by deciet. Doesn't really matter. I wanna see Sybok taking over in Rommie Land. That would kick ass.

Re: Russell Crowe as a Klingon Nemesis?

He's way too fat these days. Klingons in TOS were mean and lean, they only became fat in TNG onwards.

/why yes, I'm kidding.

Re: Russell Crowe as a Klingon Nemesis?

Oh come on now, everyone can put sumbreros on people, but nobody can photoshop Russel Crowe as a Klingon?

By the way, I'm all for it... although I think Neil Flynn, he's tall, has a great intimidation factor, deep voice, he's perfect. He deserves a non-Scrubs acting gig.

Oh, and they HAVE to have the ridges, sure make their uniforms a blend of the "Kingon" ones and classic TOS, but they HAVE to have ridges.

Re: Russell Crowe as a Klingon Nemesis?

I wouldn't rule out a big name in the next film. Not so sure about Russell Crowe though.

Re: Russell Crowe as a Klingon Nemesis?

well the klingons have their own issues with the loss of 47 ships especially if they were major ships.
remember they have to use intimidation and threats to keep a lot of their planets in line and all of sudden they lose 47 ships out of the fleet.

though if they wanted to bring back kor.

An idea for Trek 12...

First, if the mods want to merge this, that's OK. Second, a warning that this is long.

A twist on the "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one."

Enterprise carrying Pike to Romulus for peace negotiations.

Pike assassinated at peace conference.

Vulcan militant group claims responsibility.

Starfleet dispatches Ambassador Sarek to initiate armistice talks with militant group. Sarek and Kirk are kidnapped and held hostage. The Enterprise, under Spock's command, is heavily damaged in a battle with militant forces supported by a Klingon ship detachment. Having only enough power to (possibly) beam one person aboard at a time and with the ship imprisoning Kirk and Sarek about to go warp core critical, Spock momentarily hesitates in a decision about who to beam up first. Kirk urges Spock to beam his father up first and Spock engages the transporter, but it is Kirk he beams up instead. He's in the process of acquiring a lock on Sarek when the ship explodes. Meaty moments of emotion follow as Spock agonizes over his decision, having flashbacks to losing his mother in a similar fashion. Kirk asks why Spock chose to beam him up first, and Spock replies "the Enterprise needed her captain."

Starfleet dispatches the Enterprise to head immediately to the Vulcan colony planet amidst reports of civil unrest caused by the militant group and its shadowy leader. Around orbit, an elaborate ruse by the militants separates Kirk, Scotty, Uhura and Sulu from the Enterprise on false pretenses of negotiation. Heavily armed militants commandeer the crew depleted and warp-damaged Enterprise and set it on a course to Romulus. Vulcan militants try to convince Spock to join their cause, trying to appeal to his emotions ("they killed your mother!"). Spock, of course, says "you killed my father." They show a live transmission of a sniper on the Vulcan colony targeting Uhura. It is unclear if Spock feigns his allegiance or truly relents, unlocking bridge controls.

Kirk and co. manage to evade the trap on the Vulcan colony and find SpockPrime in hiding on the Vulcan colony planet with the help of his protege, Saavik. He helps them steal an antiquated Klingon bird of prey which had been "donated" to the militant group by Klingon sympathizers. They chase after the Enterprise, managing to catch up due to the latter's warp engine damage from the earlier battle.

Kirk and co. arrive just in time under cloak to see the Enterprise in orbit around Romulus. Scotty warns that it's only a matter of time before they repair the phasers and torpedo launchers and destroy most of the populated crust. Kirk remarks that "Spock would never have willingly unlocked those bridge controls." Scotty isn't as sure, which draws some tension from Uhura. Sulu suggests firing on the Enterprise, to which both Uhura and Scotty feriously object. Kirk agrees, noting that this BoP is no match for the Enterprise, even at half-capacity. Kirk and Sulu quickly devise an alternate plan.

The Vulcan militants finish repairing the Enterprise's weapons systems, and are about to fire on Romulus when Spock manages to enter a shutdown code into the computer system. The militants, having foreseen this contingency, quickly restore weapons control and target the Romulan senate. Before they can fire, the BoP decloaks and fires a concentrated disruptor burst at the Enterprise's impulse engines, knocking the ship off of geosynchronous orbit and resetting the targetting scanners. The Enterprise fires back at the BoP, destroying the transporter circuitry. McCoy and Chekov, having been freed from the brig by Spock's shutdown code, quickly make their way to the Enterprise bridge and arrive in time to save Spock from being vaporized. One of the militants manages to enter a coded sequence into the computer that locks the shields on, and will automatically re-align the Enterprise above the Romulan senate and set the ship on a collision course into the planet. Spock doesn't know if he can break the code in time, but hails Kirk and explains the situation. Kirk says he'll give Spock as much time as he can to deactivate the sequence before firing. Spock urges Kirk to fire now as he is uncertain if he will succeed. Kirk refuses, and Spock says farewall to Uhura just in case. Uhura asks Kirk if he'll fire, and Kirk says "I don't know."

With time ticking down, Spock hails the BoP and urges Kirk to fire. Scotty warns that their window to destroy the Enterprise without killing anyone on the surface is closing fast. Uhura looks worried. Kirk tells Sulu to arm torpedoes, but stands by, pushing the limit. Spock manages to decode the sequence just in time, thanks to a moment of ingenuity from both Chekov and McCoy...

On the BoP, everyone looks relieved, most of all Kirk. Spock asks Kirk why he didn't fire, and Kirk says "the captain needs his friend."

Uhura tells Spock that she understands if he decides to end their relationship, knowing from his official report that he might have been swayed in his decision to unlock the Enterprise because her life was in danger. Spock stares at a picture of his mother and father together, and says that logic would dictate that to be a prudent move, and as Uhura begins to leave the room, Spock whispers "but love would not." Uhura freezes.

Movie ends with the reveal of the leader of the militant group ... none other than Khan.

Fanboyish and cheesy enough for ya? ;)
