I wouldn't mind seeing Nathan Fillion as the lead in a new Star Trek series. He'd make a great Kirk-like commanding officer out on the Post-Dominion War frontier.
Or, were it not for Chris Pine, Fillion as Kirk himself?

Well, there were these about 15 years ago or so:

I remember reading a one-page QL fanfic at a convention once where Sam leapt into a red shirt on the TOS set in 1967. As he realizes who and where he is, he says, kind of thinking out loud, "Beam me up, Scotty" right as a writer is walking past him. The writer hears it and says "I like that." He writes it down and Sam leaps out.

No, I wouldn't buy Fillion as Kirk. He's not cocky enough

Odd then, that "Beam me up, Scotty" was never used in TOS. The only time we hear it is The Animated Series.

From what I gather, the role has yet to be created. For those who, like me, only know Star Trek in TV an movie originals, this is from Wikipedia:How about NF as Mackenzie Calhoun?
Mackenzie Calhoun (born M'k'n'zy of Calhoun) is a fictional character from the Star Trek universe. Created by Peter David, Calhoun is an extraterrestrial from the planet Xenex, and is captain of the Federation starship USS Excalibur.
Calhoun appears exclusively in Star Trek: New Frontier, a series of spin-off novels and comic books set during the 24th century era of Star Trek: The Next Generation, in which he is the main character. He first appeared in the 1997 New Frontier debut novel, Star Trek: New Frontier: House of Cards
Calhoun is the only Star Trek character that has not appeared in any of the Star Trek television series or movies to have an action figure.
Er... is it my reply you were replying to the very next minute?^ I meant theoretically.![]()
Not a bad idea altogether!I wouldn't mind seeing Nathan Fillion as the lead in a new Star Trek series. He'd make a great Kirk-like commanding officer out on the Post-Dominion War frontier.![]()

I must confess this is the first time I've ever heard somebody say he wasn't cocky *enough*.
(That was one of the problems I had with Firefly, actually...most of those people were *too* cocky. But that's not FF's fault, as such; it seems to be a Whedon trademark.)
How about NF as Mackenzie Calhoun?
Starfleet technology cannot curb Flanigan's hair.I suppose Joe Flanigan (SG:A) would make a better Calhoun, at any rate. For a couple of reasons: 1) He seems to be the fan favorite anyway, and 2) Nathan Fillion has been so associated with Firefly that he may not want to do anything Trek-related, since those two franchises are often at odds (although that's largely a fan conceit).
