Dougherty was Section 31, wasn't he? Seems fairly obvious to me, given his actions in Insurrection. (Ditto for Admiral Cartwright in ST VI) Also I seem to remember one of the other novels mentioning "a failed Section 31 operation in the Briar Patch".
There's no reason to assume that Section 31 has to be behind every single devious thing that happens in the Federation. It's not like they hold the patent on corruption.
Yes, but Babaganoosh is recalling correctly things established in the Section 31 miniseries. Cloak implied pretty strongly that Cartwright at 31 connections, and Abyss came out and said that the events of Insurrection were a 31 operation and that Dougherty was in their pocket.

Hey wizkid, glad you're enjoying A Time to Love. As a whole, the authors involved in the nine books were very satisfied with the outcome. The last five may feel more connected because the three authors involved (me, David Mack and Krad the Obscure) saw each other for lunch regularly during the writing of the books, allowing us to share notes and ideas.
Just finished A Time to Heal.
I can say that so far my favorites have been Kill and Heal with Kill leading the way. I loved the fast paced action in Kill and that book went down over two consecutive nights in bed after my wife had went to sleep. I couldn't put it down.
All the books have been good but the first two were slow and dull. I have thoroughly enjoyed the remaining ones.
Sow and Harvest were great reads and I loved the humor in the books. I laughed and chuckled through the books because they seemed to pick up on the nuances in the characters. The acknowledgements may have been the best thing about both books.
Now it is time for the last book by KRAD. I am eager to see the outcome and hope KRAD rounds out a nice series.

I think War/Peace is one of my favorites (I'm equally torn between the last three of the A Time to... series).
Heal is one of the best Trek novels out there, definitely. It's got the action, the suspense, and the emotion. It's not often I get really upset when I read about four Starfleet officers getting killed. My stomach was clenched tightly the whole time. (BTW, could we designate Mr. Mack as the official Star Trek Literary Hitman? Meant as a compliment, btw. :thumbsup
War/Peace was the first of the A Time to... that I read, and it still holds a special place for me. The dealing of the aftermath of the disastrous Tezwa mission, the potential for the future of the Federation...it was a great read. Plus, it had Bacco!
There is a reason we call him Mack the Knife, although it should be, Mack the Knife/Phaser/Bomb/etc. I'm just really worried about the Destiny Trilogy. He'll probably kill off the entire Federation - and where would that leave us?Vixen said:

reading TOS -era stuff, DQ-based books. (the adventures of Neelix: a 12-book maxi-series coming in 2009!) GQ-based Dominion stuff... Klingon Empire!

There could always be a temporal anomaly nearby that resets everything, like in the Millenium Omnibus...
I kind of want to get back into the A Time to series. A Time to Be Born was the last Trek book I read... and that was a looong time ago.
I am gonna have to give this series a re-read. I've totally forgotten the whole thing.
