A defence of Kirk's 'Why are you talking to me, man?'

Pine delivers this line brilliantly.

I dont understand this whole "They should be clones of the previous actors interpretations" shit that some people have.

Hes young, hes drunk, hes just been in a "Firefly inspired bar brawl" and hes being lectured by some old fart in a bar full of young people.

I think its good, it gives Trek a sense of reality, a natural reaction to an older guy talking to you when ypur drunk, hes not cool enough to be seen with you.

And yes, im in defence of the line. Why not.

Star Trek is finally a space adventure again, we havny seen this type old school adventure since, well, parts of the TOS movie franchise.

Yeah, it would be funny to turn to some non-fan in the theater on May 8th or whatever and right after that scene happens, whisper to the non-fan " We argued about that line for pages and pages back in January." See what reaction you get.

I would smack the shit out of anyone who said that to me. That's obnoxious.

I showed my best friend the Star Trek XI section here on TBBS and his
exact words were: "Isn't it the story and characters that make it Star Trek?" :vulcan:

Sad day when Star Wars fans are showing us up.
